Showa Rear Shock

  1. I have lost a lot of weight and I now find the SS suspension a bit too hard on the bumpy Suffolk roads.

I have the Showa shock fitted with a Hyperpro spring..........

Should I reduce the spring preload a bit (which will obviously affect the sag) or should I try just reducing the compression damping?

    Or just eat more pies?

  2. If you've lost the weight (congratulations), you'll need to reduce the preload to restore the correct sag anyway.

  3. then get the correct spring for your skinny arse

  4. I don't know why your worrying about the Suffolk roads, I thought you was deserting me and moving across the boarder to the land where your mothers brothers wife is your cousins brothers fathers nephew uncle three times removed!!

  5. There's Norfolk between Suffolk and here... *confused*

  6. You don't know how close you are Dad.......

Spare carbon can still needed or will you wait until I have moved? Just in case some clot damages my left can.

  7. Al, You moving?

  8. Looks like I am.

  9. Reduce the compression damping a little. If there is rebound damping on the unit, you may need to adjust that as well.

And as already mentioned, the pre-load may need to be reduced to restore the correct sag. This is independent of any damping adjustments you may require.

  10. That is exactly what I thought.......

....but although the static sag is correct, the rider sag is probably not enough, so I think I will have to compromise between static and rider and reduce the preload for somewhere in between......

  11. Haven't adjusted anything yet and just went to get the bike MOT'd (straight through again) and wound it up here and there............found it not too bad when the bumps and potholes can be spotted and avoided early enough...........

...........the worst bumps are where the road surfaces change material which go right across both carriageways, so it's bump on then bump off..........unless I get my a*se off the seat.....

  12. There's plenty of roads down my way that, for my Showa-shod 750Sie, are arse-out-the-seat bumpy. I always figure it's better to choose when you stand out of the seat rather than have the decision made for you :)

  13. I'll wait till you have move mate, just in case. I'm trying to get the 400 done ready for the copdock show, hoping to have it on the owners club stand. Prob be the last thing to change, got some issues with electrics, now about to post a tread.......
