From the factory, my 2002 SS had a gray sealant for the alternator and clutch covers on the engine. I've been using various RTV for years but recently purchased ready-made gaskets for both sides. I'm having second thoughts about the gaskets because of their thickness. With the sealant, there is essentially zero space in the joint, but the gasket has a bit more. I'm concerned about the increase in space because of the timing and RPM sensor, as well as the pressurized oil O-ring on the clutch side cover. Has anyone used the gaskets on their injected bike without issues? Did you also use sealant with your gaskets? Can you successfully use the gasket by itself without sealant?
Mine had gaskets when new but I have long removed them and use three bond. The 0.2 mm more or less makes near enough no difference on the clutch cover or the alternator cover. Use whatever you prefer. Crank case halves are different. 0.2mm thickness added or removed would very much make a difference because of the preloaded bearings.
