Hi, After multiple ride in heavy rain locking mechanism of pannier became sticky, it was difficult to lock and unlock for lid opening or pannier removal. I was afraid to brake the key. So decided to disassemble mechanism. I cleanded it and now it works smoothly. I want to ask what lube to use for moving plastic parts? Silicone, PTFE? I’m afraid it will become more sticky and attract even more sand and dust. Or just leave it dry and periodicaly maintain?
Having recently fitted new locks to mine , I found they work better with just a little bit of light grease. It’s worth keeping them clean as well I guess
For a non sticky, dry, lubricant you can use graphite. Get a soft pencil lead, maybe 2B or softer, and rub it on the sliding surfaces. This trick also works on zips.
