This picture shows the bolt that retains my side stand. and this link shows the same bolt on the Stein Dinse website https://www.stein-dinse.biz/images/product_images/popup_images/77910553a.jpg Mine has the hex socket ground off so it can't be undone. Anyone have any ideas about why that would have been done?
It allowed the side stand to move a bit further forward when down to avoid the dreaded "side stand flick up", which allowed the bike to hit the deck..
No, there is/was a cranked link that went around the hex head to achieve the same (non flip-up stand). The cranked link replaces the straight one in your picture. Sorry no, I don't have details - just remember from when I had a 900SS...
Thanks for the info. Found the non flip link for sale on Ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/23465738...7yoINM94Fv3HEHGPvD4kSrTnjwrW|tkp:BFBM5PKi3OZg
I can see why a stand that flips up on its own could be a problem but I would like to lube the pivot. I used spray grease with a solvent that evaporates rather than trying to get the headless bolt out.
Hammer a small enough Torx bit into the hole and that will hopefully give you enough purchase to remove the bolt. Alongside getting the new bits to address the issue in a more suitable manner.
Not sure if this helps but I've a new bolt in stock. You'll need to cross check the part number for compatibility, as mine is listed for a Monster, ST4 and other models. https://www.ricambimoto.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=78_79&product_id=135
I have already tried it with a screw extractor and I can feel the extractor is at the limit of what it can take and no movement from the bolt. I think the bolt will not have been undone since the bike left the factory so the steel bolt and the ali bracket will have fused together. I'll drill it out if I decide I need to remove it.
Thanks for this. I think your bolt might be this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/29478768...oqRiP1Kmo7Z4woagEe6A1QdZw=|tkp:Bk9SR-TyotzmYA not like the one in my first post in this thread.
Did not really like the c shaped bracket. Can't take credit for this saw it some where. Had to take the bolt out with mole grips which messes the o.d. up, but then you just filed some flats on it. Cheers Gaz
When I cut the protrusion off my side stand bolt & drilled & tapped a hole in the centre & put a grub screw in with some Loctite retaining fluid. That then gives you a means of getting the bolt out in the future, using an Allen key.
