Side Stand Switch Query - St4 / M900

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Nottsbiker, Nov 16, 2023.

  1. Hi All,

I'm currently in the final stages of getting all the bits required to build up the rolling chassis of my M900 project (just waiting on the local engineer for some small bits) and have been unable to get the right stand switch for my bike.

As I intend on occasionally using the bike for solo trips across the channel I've got the Givi tank bag from my old DVT, the top box and a very old nos Givi fitting kit for the matching rack to make it slightly more useable for such trips. Part of this "touring pack" is a genuine Ducati centre stand kit (also very old) which I was told I'd need a different side stand to use so duly purchased said stand which I believe is from an ST4. Like an idiot I then purchased a new switch thinking that they were all the same (durrr!) which doesnt fit :(

Can anyone have a look at the pictures and let me know which switch I need to look out for?

    Many thanks,

    Ben

  2. That sidestand looks like an old "suicide" type. The switch was just to light up the light on the dash. The switch you have is the later type which would cut ignition if stand was left down. It won't fit that stand you have.

  3. I agree with what @nelly says above ^^

    My ST4 has no switch on the side-stand ( thankfully ! )
.... those switches are constantly exposed to road crud , and they quickly become a royal PITA !
My side-stand has a return spring which flicks it back up . if it doesn't have
the weight of the bike on it .

And on a side note ( oops .... excuse the pun ) , anyone who throws their leg
over a motorbike without first checking the position of the side-stand ?
..... they should stick to riding bicycles ! ..... :p

    Supplementary question .....
Why is so much of our "modern" life now supposedly designed to be "idiot-proof" ?

Because insurance companies dictate so many aspects of our lives these days !

  4. Many thanks - I'll sell off the switch I dont need and then bridge the stock wiring loom on the 900M if it originally had a switch (got this bike in boxes)
