1200 Silencer Swap-out

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Mark_h, Nov 18, 2021.

  1. Hi,

I'm considering swapping out the stock silencer for something with a little more "Character". Anyone got anything for sale or links to some good bargains? Also anyone got any pointers on ones to avoid? I already have the flap bypass fitted everything else is pretty much standard. Seems you can pick up a complete Mivv system new for under £500.

  2. A couple of people have removed the cat' but its quite a job & then reweld the thing back up.

  3. Unless you buy a full system, it'll make very little difference.

  4. Hi, appreciate I will need a full system. The Mivv is a full system.

  5. I've had Arrow and SC Project decats previously. They added a couple of HP but mostly made the bike have more "character", the arrow was the loudest, the SC was still a nice sound though.
To me a full system is headers, decat and slipon. The only one of which I was aware of for the 1200 was the Termi, the majority of the rest were decat's with joining pipes and can.

  6. I have a Delkevic decat on my Enduro. Quaility is reasonable for what it cost (about £180 I think, roughly). I don't love the silencer, and I'd ideally like to swap that out for a higher quality item, and something longer (for better silencing). But for what it cost it's not bad, and the bike feels more lively in the midrange (although the flat spot hasn't gone altogether).

  7. Ive just installed a Mivv suono with their de-cat on my 1260. 2 things to note.
    1. Its ridiculously loud and the db killer thats rivetted in is nothing more than 2 or so inches of slightly smaller diameter pipe.
    2. The quality of the bending on the decat is appalling. Tooling marks all over it.

If youre used to Arrow / Akrapovic quality (as i am) its very disappointing and only marginally cheaper. And it took a month to arrive.

I'll be drilling the rivet for the db non-killer and finding someone to make me a proper baffle for it.

  8. Had a Mivv full on my 2011..
    It wasn’t on there long.
    TOO LOUD.!!.

    Sorry, was I shouting.?

  9. This subject has come up before on the forum, might be worth a search. The cat does all the silencing. If you change the end can it makes no appreciable difference apart from looks. I tried it on my 1200, found it a waste of time.

It took me a while to decide to stump up the money for an Akrapovic full system but I can tell you it’s the best thing I’ve done to the bike and therefore worth every Penny.

It’s a bit louder but not too loud, for me. There’s precious little horsepower increase but the bike is far more rideable. Mid range is better and at last it’ll ride at 20mph or 30mph or anything you want all the way up to track speeds. It’s far more fun to ride and sounds much better.

Personally I love it and if I change the bike I’ll be getting an Akrapovic full system on the next bike, despite the cost.

If you don’t want to shell out that much get a cat eliminating link pipe and take a look at Lextek, they do a whole range of very nice looking pipes. They usually have a stand at Motorcycle live if you’re going.
