I was with NL on Monday this week at Silverstone - as a heads up they are now static testing the fast group due to a recent noise issue with someone taking the piss, so be prepared to get the bike through at 105dB, assuming that's the limit on the day. It sucks! I struggled Sam
Silverstone guys are normally pretty good with ducatis failing static and being testing on drive by I was there with Focussed last week and they said they were going to static test us in fast group, but in reality, they didn't make it compulsory and there was no checking of sound test stickers
I had to have two goes at the noise test. Full Akra with baffles was at 107.8 to start with, even keeping the revs down a bit! Got it really hot, well revved, and make it down to 106.2 and he finally gave me a sticker and said 'it should make it through drive by'. No issues all day and I popped the baffles out for the final session and had no issues, albeit the final session heroics by a number of riders brought the red flag out early on so I only got a couple of hot laps in
Strangely the noise limit on the site for the day is actually listed as 105dB ride by at 3/4rpm?!!?!... which seems to make no sense! Mine blew 103dB at 5,000rpm, so should be ok with 105dB.
Like Sam says, they're pretty tolerant, they just try and stop people from turning up with full on race pipes or completely unsilenced street dicks I was there a few weeks back, when they started testing fast group, and there was a guy with a blinged up road ZX6R with effectively a pipe from the engine with no silencer. He started it up in the massive garage and people were covering their ears. He was rather upset that they wouldn't let him out on track. but really....
