Silverstone Motogp Cancelled!!

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by WAYNE, May 29, 2020.

  1. Just had an email from Silverstone this morning. Full refund or carryover to 2021 which is something as I have still had no information about Catalunya which would have been a week on Sunday. Andy

  2. sad but not entirely surprising. Let's hope the Jerez ones still manage to take place and we can see something next month

  3. Interesting comment on Everything MotoGP FB page, apparently Silverstone chose to cancel, not Dorna. The 30th anniversary, Silverstone Classic was cancelled last week so I wonder what future for F1 ? Andy

  4. I thought the current official line in Spain is that all visitors must have 14 days quarantine
.... I half-heard an interview on the World Service ( in the small hours ) with a representative
of a Spanish tourist association .

He was pretty cross about it .... " Who is going to come here for vacation if they have to spend 2 weeks in isolation ? "

  5. My understanding from reading the rossi article on crash.net is that the two races at Jerez are being held after everyone has quarantined for 14 days and are being held behind closed doors? Even so, at Jerez they get the biggest crowds of the year, if they only allow spanish nationals they will still likely get twice what we get at MotoGP in Silverstone.

  6. I was reading this morning that ministers are considering introducing an antibody test which would negate the two week quarantine. Its not a definite yet, but it is a possibility.

Had Silverstone wanted to run this, they could have done so - it seems to me they didn't really want it. All they want is F1 and things 'must' be left to be able to accomodate the playboys sport

Given its the second time they have scrubbed a MGP recently, maybe we should find another venue that HAS an interest in running motorcycle racing :mad:

  7. Don't large organized events of all types have a beefy insurance policy to pay out in the case of forced cancellation ?

It could be the accountants having the final say on it .....
.... looking to minimize the possible losses that they might be facing ?
