Well Redding did really well, not that you'd have noticed watching the bt sports coverage as I don't think we had one shot of him , came in 10th Yes another Marquez win, gutted Lorenzo couldn't hold out for the last 2 laps but he rode the wheels off that yamaha . I just can't stand the constant superlatives thrown at Marquez, magnificent, magical, mesmerising.... Honestly its just a big fucking Spanish sausage 'Marquez love in' Give Redding and Espagaro a factory Honda and then I'll join in, but while everything is laid on a plate for him I'll continue to support other deserving riders that simply don't get the golden boy treatment
Just switched on BT Sport thinking the race was starting at 2pm to see Marquez on the top step. Doh. Looks like it will have to be tomorrow's ITV4 coverage.
To be fair the only interesting thing Redding did was to overtake a Pramac during the race. Crutchdog Millionaire was useless all weekend but at least he didn't fall off. A win for Yamaha in my book, Lorenzo was all over the wonder child throughout and Rossi managed to keep Pedrosa in his box. (With some help from Dovi.) Now for moto3
when you see what pedrosa is doing on the honda then marquez is deserving of the plaudits , he overtakes where you shouldn't and the bike is always out of shape and he not opposed to swapping paint , really whats not to like
Has Crutchlow given up now then? Today he couldn't beat Hernandez on last year's bike ....so how is he suddenly going to be challenging for the podium next year? Don't see it myself
I guess I just don't like the big hype about him, yes he's good no question, but so are loads of the other moto2 boys, all of which were happy to swap paint with him and each other. They just don't get the same kit when they come to GP, that's the shameful part and where it becomes less of a spectacle for me.
Dorna need Marquez to stay on the best bike as that pulls in the viewers and spectators and sponsors etc. He also is very photogenic and smiles a lot,and hopefully has a long future, which means Moto Gp has a future etc.
There is a huge amount of love for VR46. It's clear why he has another 2 year contract before his recent performance is even considered.
Wouldn't be surprised of Jorge went charging into race control and asked them to look at the pass. On the big screens it looked like he was already on the apex when Marquez came under and forced him off
Yes, I get the pin up boy bit, but I'm pretty sure Dorna would also rather have talent like Scott Redding and the like on equally matched bikes so that you get quality racing week in week out. I mean let's take Scott Redding for an example, he's not a bad looking lad and you can't say he doesn't have an awesome riding style, take a look at the picture below on the shite customer honda. I'd rather see him up the top end putting a pass on Marquez.
Enjoyed all 3 races but really would love to see less blooming Spanish riders! Was it top 3 of Moto3 were, one of the top 3 in moto 2 2 of the top two motogp. Please someone else, anyone.... :Arghh:
don't worry it won't be long before we are banging on about jack miller , i agree scott is a good rider but he didn't win the moto 2 championship where marquez did also marquez really refuses to be beat by anybody , think scott will be on a full spec bike next year but he will need to seriously up his game
I went to the Day of Champions on Thursday and had quite a long chat with Niall McKenzie about Marquez. I asked him if he had ever seen anything like him before in his biking life and he agreed he hadn't. He said he had always thought Rossi was special ( and Niall has ridden with some very special riders) but this guy is something else. He said he is doing things on the bike which no one else ever considered doing let alone making it all work so well. He is beating riders with years of experience with relative ease.... and all with a huge smile on his face. Whilst i agree that one rider winning all the time is not good for the sport you cannot but be in awe of the style and speed that Marquez is doing it.
Sadly it's not surprising that the armchair experts slag off the likes of Marquez. There are two reasons that he's so popular: he comes across as a nice guy (like VR). Did you see him on the Tuesday night BT Sports show? Could you imagine Lorenzo doing that? The second is that he's hugely talented, thanks to the popularity of motorbikes on the continent* and the financial assistance that goes into the training schemes and national motorbike racing in countries like Spain. That's why I take my hat off to riders like Scott, Bradders, Cal, Sam etc. they have got where they are with one arm tied behind there back! * Compare Silverstone with Le Mans. Riding out of Le Mans is little effort because all the traffic parts before you like Moses parting the seas. All the way back to the ferry at Ouistreham, every village, crossroad, bridge is covered with people waving to the bikers returning from France's GP. They even encourage you off the road for free lemonade etc. These people make a day of it, bringing picnics just so they can cheer bikers on there way home. Parents hold their little kids up so you can slap hands as you ride through the villages. You feel like a conquering hero returning from battle. Riding out of Silverstone (or any circuit in the UK) is slow progress and then you get stuck on the M40 when the traffic comes to a halt because nobody will move over because you are a biker and should have to sit and wait like all the cars ...... grrrr? Anyway, I had a fantastic time at Silverstone (apart from last night when I froze my nuts off ((I'm not sure what my gf froze off)) in the early hours of the morning, I'm sure there was a frost in the tent!).
Dont get me wrong, I like Marquez. I followed him in Moto2 and you could see he was special.... Not even worried if he won every race, it would just be nice to see some other nationalities hunting him down. Trouble is the Spanish have pushed all of their sport, thats why the footballers have done well, tennis etc. It will take years for any other countries to catch up....
Much the same as above coming away from Assen in '07 and Catalunya in '06 & '08, the locals just love to have a road side party when the bikes come away from the circuit. Also in Catalunya both times the police shut down the adjacent dual carriageway and made it all one way. Contrast that with Donington around the same time and there was a 'yoof' with a baseball cap on the wrong way round directing traffic! The Spaniards encourage their young ones to get on some form of two wheeled motorcycle transport from a very young age and you only have to see how many scooters there are in Barcelona to see that two wheels is the way to commute in Spain. Again contrast that to the way in most instances motorised two wheeled transport is castigated in this country. Spain's Motorcycle racers are second to only footballers in their publics' eyes. When was the last you saw an advertisement adorning bus stops with Cal or Bradders or even Grinning Tom on in our major cities? Does anyone outside our little stratosphere actually know any British bike racers? In answer to the original post, Marquez brilliant, Redding will be brilliant on better bike but I'm not sure Cal will.....?
