Silverstone Track Day Opinions

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Dubs, Feb 2, 2015.

  1. Just looking for info on Silverstone, nothing set in stone yet, pardon the pun.

To me it looks more of a car track? You can wind it up but not so much twisty

    Any opinions welcome.

    & info re accommodation.

    Tks

  2. Depends very much on which of the circuits is being used. The full GP circuit used by the Moto GP boys is 3.5+ miles and smaller bikes get gobbled by the R1s, Blades, ZX10s, 1098/99, 1199s, having ridden my 748R at the Ducati day last July. There are a number of smaller track options that would favour the more nimble bikes. Silverstone is an iconic track and IMO is a must do whatever the track you use. Andy

  3. It's a flat track but I like it, fast and flowing. oh and its fast, did I mention its fast?

  4. A nice track, a bit flat but some terrific very high speed corners. Challenging enough for anyone. Very wide, so off line maneuvers possible.

  5. Love Silverstone, always leave with a big grin at the end of the day. Crazy fast but found it's not just about flat out speed. It can be pretty forgiving too if you screw up (there's a quite bit of run off), but it can really bite you in the ass if you screw up as well (it's friggin fast so if you do have the misfortune to come off it'll probably be memorable). Absolutely love Becketts when I get it right!

Done it on an 848 an R1 and a Pani now, definitely enjoyed it more on the bigger bikes as you can stretch the legs of them better than some other tracks but still had an absolute blast on the 848!

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  6. I got confused by the 2 paddock/pit straights...

  7. It's not difficult, if you finish your session go into the pits and your vans not there, you've gone into the wrong one.

  8. All I can say it's a good job both corners are r/h after each paddock straight...:Bag:

  9. I like Silverstone, as said it suits a faster bike but even on a slow one it's still a good laugh.

  11. Lots of better tracks out there, it is wide, soul less, flat, boring and dull ... the UK has some fantastic circuits and Silverstone isn't one of them .... even Rockingham is more fun !!!!

  12. It's well worth doing and can be great fun but I do prefer tracks that are not flat and old airfields. Donnington is way better.

  13. tks ALL.

    :upyeah:

You confirmed what I suspected. Its fast, fast and emmm.....fast ! A must do but not the best UK track out there. Id tend to agree, Donny looks a hoot.

BUT, flat and not so up / down, i can see where you are coming from. That i would prefer myself, a little bit involving.

Out of curiosty, whats a good doable track ( within ok distance) from Holyhead in Wales if we were to come over the day before to do a Sat or Sunday in blighty ?

  14. Anglesey, where are you coming from Mars? :) It's a sort of Philip Island circuit but with sheep rather than kangaroo's.

  15. Never done Silverstone and never fancied it TBH. I love Cadwell and Anglesey so I guess its chalk and cheese.

  16. Try not to get distracted by the views Anglesey Circuit - Trac Mon

  17. cheers.

Its quite close to the ferry, a few have done days over there.

Whats your opinion Mr C ?

  18. Anglesey is great, especially the coastal circuit. Trackdays are normally (99%) on the international circuit. Fast and flowing in section with some tighter technical bits up on the higher section. Stay on circuit but it can be windy.

  19. noice one Cranker.

  20. Pretty much what Cranker says, Its just a great fun circuit, stopping over night is free, they have new garages which are a God send. They have a little restaurant and Im sure the bar is open late ish. Its like Philip Island.. But with sheep

You could always do a day at Anglesey and the following day at Oulton
