1260 Sky Hook Suspension

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by 6274rico, Nov 26, 2020.

  1. Hi all am contemplating get a multistrada v 4 nxt yr.
My question is as far as the skyhook verses basic suspension whats everyone's thoughts which is better and why?.
As for me iv only ever had manual set up which I set to fiddle about with till I feel its good for me and my pillion. Then leave it alone.cheers

  2. Lots of discussion on here if you use the forum search function. Electronic suspension tends to come in to its own for riders who chop and change between solo and pillion riding with or without luggage whereas if you only ride solo, probably not that necessary. Andy

  3. I do chop and change and find it extremely useful and so much better than the suspension I've had on other bikes. Highly recommend.

  4. What android says is true, but Skyhook does much more than that.

When you change riding modes - Urban/Touring/Sport - Skyhook adjusts the suspension damping dynamically, as you ride, to suit. In Urban it softens it to better absorb rough town roads and speed bumps, for example. In touring it gives a comfortable compromise on firmness and comfort, but if you speed up it also adjusts to firm the suspension to aid stability. In Sport the suspension stiffens even more and it noticeably assists cornering at speed.
It's a brilliant system which extends the range of available suspension settings in real time. It is bespoke to your current riding demands rather than the manually set compromise of a 'dumb' system.

  6. If you can afford the premium, skyhook is worth it IMO. I wouldn’t consider one without now I’ve had (and similar other brands) on my new bikes.

  7. Yes yes, skyhook is the damping solution to go for, I ordered the V4 a while ago and skyhook is included in mine. Kawasaki Versys is using a same kind of damping. Test riders from Austria are confirming the advantages (search youtube multistrada V4)

  8. Have you had a versys? How does it compare? The bmw system is miles off in quality

  9. No, apologies for the confusion. I have been driving a BMW K1600GT for 9 years. Much to heavy and bad suspension. (And bad engine temperature control). The reason to choose for the V4 is because it is a sporty bike for touring with luggage in the mountains. I like to explore all the mountain roads in Europe. Also the smallest ones. And I always need to do a day on the highway before I arrive there.

  10. The Skyhook on my 1260 is the best I’ve had on any bike, and was one of the main reasons I went for the GT.

  12. What do you mean by "went pop"? Wheels fell off, forks collapsed? Or just suspension ceased to react Skyhook fashion?

  13. I had it on my 1200s, it was lovely for touring, swapping modes from magic carpet to firm at the flick of a switch. Really enjoyed it, and would be happy to recommend. It’s not until you really start pushing hard on the 1260 PP (that’s properly set up), that you move beyond the skyhook compromises.

  14. Skyhook was one of the reasons I got the bike, nice that you can configure every drive mode individually. Its like 3 bikes in one! It just took me a while to understand you had to tune the preload of the fork yourself, but that is a one time job.
