1098 Slash Cut Cans ?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by GaryO, Jun 10, 2014.

  1. I have a 1098s with a full 70mm Termi system fitted , air filter and ECU.

To 'freshen up' the bike I was wondering if I could just bolt on slash cut end cans without any major issues ? Has anybody done this ?

    Cheers

  2. I think spring hooks are in different locations.

  3. I also think the link pipes are different because the slash cuts have an outside spring between the can an then one down the middle like the standard exhausts. Also is the full system pipe work not different? Are the headers not different by the footrest? With no exhaust valve etc?

  4. As stated above, the hook positions changed, what appears to be almost randomly, however when I was looking for my 70mm headers, the guys at JHP said whichever I managed to get they could just take off the hooks and then weld them where they need to be.

  5. Great info , cheers. Hmmmm, sounds like this idea may have to go into the 'to hard to do' pile :(

  6. You'll probably be fine without the springs.

  7. Tbh I agree, the springs on my evo barely do anything. I was all prepared with a proper spring puller to do battle and they just pop off, think they are a tad long! Maybe because ducati probably do just weld the spring hooks 'somewhere near'

  8. I must admit that when I have removed the springs in the past they are pretty loose , thought it was just wear and tear

  9. Springs on cans are shorter (slightly) than the springs on mid section etc. Mine on my slash cut are nice and tight. I noticed when I had my mid section off and I was re-assembling that the springs were ever so slightly longer, as when i was re-assembling I got them mixed up and was wondering why the springs were loose.

Its hardly discernible to notice the difference in length.

  10. The spring connectors changed in position between model years. 2008/9 70mm systems had the springs on the inside. 2009/later 70mm systems had the springs on the outside to make it easier to access. Apart from the spring positions, there was no other difference between them.

  11. Springs on mine are definitely on the inside, great info and thanks for the help. I'll attempt to grab a used pair of slash cuts and see whats what ;)

  12. There are both ... All systems have a set of springs at the 'Y' piece, but the slash cuts also have a set of springs on the outside of the link pipes to hold the cans to the link, that is visible. I think on the old termi's this also ran up the inside of the cans. Most aftermarket slip ons seem to have fixed link pipes meaning u just need the original y piece springs which have never moved location (I just put 848 pipes on my 848 evo).

Or am I wrong? Hopefully it's clear...

  13. Lower spring is in the same position on mine but the upper spring is on the inside of the Y-piece.

  14. Stupid Ducati and there Stupid Springs.... yes, seems like the idea needs putting in the bin

  15. Defo wouldn't not use springs...... I learnt that the hard way

  16. Yep, agree cos they are there for a reason I guess ! So without removing and welding on new lugs its a non starter :(
