999 (Small) tours on a 999 - luggage question

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Moo!, Mar 23, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

One of the aims of getting my 999 was to visit chums up and down the county for a one night stayover, a curry and a few beers. I have been looking forward to doing this for years - a chance to get out and 'put the spurs to her' and see old mates / reletives at the same time.

I am talking (from London) Suffolk, Norfolk. Durham. Brighton. Liverpool and Worcester for instance.

Now I had an excellent Ventura pack system on my old D675 but it seems a bit of an overkill for a one - nighter (basically 1 shirt, 1 pair of pants, pair of jeans, maybe compact wet wear and a toothbrush - oh and a 16mm Almax chain) would fit comfortably in a small rucksack - although the Almax is bloody heavy and can dig into your back so something attached to the bike would be nice,,,

I also don't like the idea of fitting anything unnecessary on the bike. and the Ventura L rails looked ugly poking up at the back like two stumpy horns ( when not in use ).

    Any ideas / suggestions???

  2. Is it a mono or biposto

  3. Good sized tank bag

  4. Just use a decent backpack if it's a mono or a bag on the passenger seat if a biposto.

  5. It's a Biposto - don't fancy lying across a tank bag - any recommendations for a pillion bag??? (Not Ventura obviously)

  6. Think I have a Givi affair for this. I have been using it for 10 years and it is excellent. I can check the manufacturer if you like. Easy to put on and take off, decent size (I can do 2 weeks away - just).

  8. If you are going for a one night stayover then a rucksack is the easiest. I took one filled with normal clothes for a 3 day weekend up to Scotland last year. No bother.

  9. Kriega back pack - fantastic kit! Spreads weight fab so can carry loads if you wanted:upyeah:

  10. I've got a 30L Held roll top bag, proven to be totally waterproof and would bunjee nicely onto a bip pillion pad, never tried it on my mono tho' ,don't fancy putting even more pressure on the already weakest link subframe!...:Jawdrop:

This is the thing what I have.
You attach two strips to the frame rails under the seat. These appear as zips running along the sides of the seat when you replace the latter. You then zip the tail pack on to the bike. You just unzip the pack when you arrive. Simples.

  12. Kriega all the way, a 20 ltr and 10 ltr on the passenger seat or a backpack

  13. Thanks for all the great info one and all - pillion pack seems the way to go either Kriega 20l or Givi (?) - just saved myself £150 odd quid on a Ventura that I don't really need....:upyeah:

  14. If you search Kriega you will see the posts I made re that luggage.
