Can't find a earlier post - any one running on Castro R ( is it recommended) or anyone adding a drop or two to the fuel t for that lovely sniff ??
My Norton ES2 used to run on Castrol R and I could not change it until I stripped down the motor. Lovely smell but expensive and gums up if not reguarly used. Would not use it on a modern engine in any quantity. I does not mix with any other oil anyway.
Wot Richard says.............do not mix it and if you do use it in the engine, make sure every last bit of the normal stuff is flushed away, otherwise lovely things happen........like a white amalgam that blocks up oil ways etc. Yep, I have done the trick of stcking it in the petrol, but you would be surprised just how much you need to get the smell............Its a lot more than a capful. And because a lot of the fuel in your carbs will evaporate over a short period, what you get left with is a gummy liquid that can easily block the pilot jets.... That said, my lawnmower smells superb......... AL
Just to add to the above, Castrol R is very dated now and I used to use it in my TZ race bike in the 1980's and it really did cause a lot of deposits to build up and it does resist burning up to a point so you get a lot of gumming up on internal parts. A747 was the replacement later on but that may well have been superseded by something better now. Definitely not for modern engines.
