1199 Smoke After Start Up

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by PCRR, Apr 28, 2018.

  1. hello all,

Had my 1199 1.5 years now. Bought with 5k now got 7k on it. Never noticed smoke after start up but had in for service last November then pretty much put away and had it out a couple times recently and after running for a short time whilst getting gear on it smokes for a bit then clears.

    Any ideas?

  2. some say oil finds its way into front cylinder when they are sat about, if it hardly uses oil, i wouldnt worry.

  3. After sitting in the garage over winter my 848 was a little smokey when cold, I’ve had it out on a couple of 40-50 mile runs and there’s no longer any sign of smoke

  4. Checked my oil level and it was slightly above top line (max). Have taken about 200ml I think and it's now on max. See what it's like next time I take it out. Fingers crossed no more smoke.

  5. Fairly normal for these bikes

  7. if its over max line, it will smoke, drain a bit out.

  8. Sometimes a change of oil type/brand or viscosity can cause temporary smoking.

  9. Yep, mine likes a quick smoke after a few weeks lay up. Goes away after 10-20 seconds. Keep in mind, it could be condensation vapor and not burnt oil.

I had high oil level too when delivered by the dealer (Hyside again!). I did an oil change at home and made sure to very slightly underfill it, that did improve the smoke on start up issue.
