899 Snetterton Track Day Today. Noise Level Related...

  1. Was at Snetterton today just watching. Not bothered booking a track day on my 899 due to it having Termi’s and reading the well documented track day noise levels thread. But there were a few Panigale’s out there today, a couple with Termi’s and an Akra, and one I’m almost sure did not even have the baffles in!

So... was anyone from here there today? I’d love to track mine but have just been under the impression with Panigale’s it’s standard exhausts only on MSV circuits. Obviously not! Would just be nice to get some clarification really. Pretty sure it was a No Limits event today.

  2. I'm there in July on my 899, has termis and baffles fitted.
I was at Oulton last year (also MSV) , the impression I get is if you pass then you pass, doesn't matter what exhaust you have. I *think* there is some latitude/common sense applied, insomuch that if you fail the static, you can ride and hopefully note trigger the ride by.
I also believe the standard exhaust is louder than the termis with oem baffles.

  3. It's doable. I rarely did anything other than a 105db day on the 899 with termis but Donny on a 98db drive by was ok. Now on the 959 with the Akra and it will get through a 102db static with some custom MHP baffles. Never been pulled for tripping the driveby. Ran at a 98db driveby day at Donny with the standard Akra baffles with no issue. Only time I've struggled is on a TD at Brands, 102db static and it failed with the MHP baffles in even though it had been run the week before at Snett exactly the same with no issues.

As reference I have a RC8 with an Akra that is loud without the baffle but always stick to 105db days with that. With a baffle it'll get through as long as the exhaust is packed well. If your termi has any hotspots/blueing then it might be worth a re-pack to quieten it a little. It does make a difference.

    Good luck.

  4. Due to whatever strange reason (maybe the adjacent building) it seems Brands are all the time 1-2 dB above other tracks.
+1 for MHP baffles and full systems...Mark Hill is top bloke.

  5. Having done a number MSV track days on my old 1199 with Termi’s (with baffles) I can confirm the following. Passed the static at Snetterton, but got pulled on the drive by. Had to have it static tested again and passed again. The tester told me where the drive by Mike was and I backed off at that point from then on and didn’t have a problem. At Brands I couldn’t get on track failed the static three times. Tried it cold, hot and with the baffles wrapped in exhaust fibre, nothing got it under the 103 dB and I couldn’t get on track.
