Ive passed on the 848 to a newbie ducati rider last night. I hope he will be as happy as the newbie guy who bought my 749s and is in love with life all of the time. He text me this week to say after 2 yrs or so of ownership, he's never going back to jap. ( nout wrong with rice rockets mind you ). Ive been hankering for 1098s now a while, so now is the time. Ive eyeballed one over here so may be collecting on Mon next week. Its an orig UK bike, so someone will probably recognise. Came from Ducati Manchester in 08 or 09, i cant remember. I know some say the 848 is enough etc, but no harm to try. I will either like it or I wont. But after a yrs worth of ownership, 3 days in Spain at Cartagena, a few track days here in IE and a few rideouts, Im looking forward to seeing the difference Will keep ya's posted. ( gulp )
looking forward to reading up on this. i wanted a 1098 until i came across the 848 i have (would never have got a 1098, same year, miles for anything near to what i eventually paid). just interested as one day it might happen... ian
I love my 1098. Great bike. You may notice the increase in power when grabbing a handful, but that's about it....oh and the clutch will be proper noisey too
I think the 1098 is also physically a bigger bike, seat height etc? Correct me if I am wrong. I thought I was wrong once but I was right so my thought was wrong, right?
You've made the right call and you'll love it. Just a few tips, get the suspension set up for you and get the ECU mapped by someone who knows what they are doing. Once those 2 things are done................................enjoy enjoy enjoy
tks for the replies folks, i will keep you posted for sure !!! but that was only half the time when you are not making the right noises at all. But i suppose you could be right, well maybe....If it was wrong intially, perhaps you weere right in the first place. Im not sure... Yup, its been liying up, so belts first, suspension second. Weather looking cat for the weekend anyway, typical. Im collecting Sunday, thats tha plan....braaaaap !!
The 848 is taller than the 899. Or should I say that it is easier for a short arse to fit the 899 as the seat is narrower therefore your feet can reach the floor better.
