Solved: Abs Warning Light

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Superwombat, Jul 21, 2020.

  1. Hello guys...:motorcycleduc:
I need som help with my hypermotard 821 2014 (13000kms OEM).
Lately I have the ABS warning light on while riding.

As I start the engine ABS light on the dash is ON.
I start to ride and after a few seconds ABS light goes OFF (at more than 5 kms/h).
All is well up to this point.

When I am riding and brake a few times relatively hard the ABS light comes ON on the dash.:triumph:

I don't know where could be the problem. Brake pads are OK, brake fluids Ok. Nothing aparently wrong in the front/back speed sensor...
    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance :upyeah:

  2. Plugged in at the dealer might show the error?

  3. The dealer is far from from home, exactly in another island... must be the last option

  4. Possibly an intermittent break in the front speed sensor cable. I had that on my Multi. It doesn't affect the speedo which gets its reading from the rear sensor.

  5. Yes, It does not affect to speedo.
And in what part of the speed sensor cable was the break?

  6. On mine it was actually the loom at the steering head but this was a multi and the loom pigtail to the sensor connector was routed badly so that it was getting stretched at full lock. I have seen another front sensor cable (not mine) that had a break about halfway down from the bottom yoke, where it gets most flexing from suspension movement.

  7. Ok, great!
I ll check all the cable route looking fot some tension points

  8. Good morning
    Good news today
I ve found the problem with the abs.
Broken abs cable in its connection to the battery.

new terminal melted to the cable and new bike again...:innocent:

  9. Brilliant. So the ABS had effectively become disconnected from the bike. I should have thought of that.

  10. I think the union between terminal and cable was so weak... not completely broken as the abs worked til I brake relatively hard and the abs system started to act. Probably voltage needed was not enought and the control module detect this, shut down and the abs light and error appears on the dash

  11. Argh yes the over zealous pull technique & stretch it! Glad you remedied your problem @Superwombat

  12. boy am I glad i joined this forum! everything was fine with my ABS but had a problem with my battery so yesterday i bought a new one disconnected all terminals and tucked them out the way whilst i changed the battery, reconnected all the terminals to the battery or so i thought and went for a ride after resetting all the parameters on the bike but the ABS light stayed on and DTC stopped working, and i could not work out why, so this morning i checked on here a hey presto i forgot to reconnect the abs wire so reconnected and all working, thanks for all the great info you can get on this forum.

this is my first reply and first ducati and loving the bike.
