I prefer to ride in leathers when ever I can. I am thin with very little natural insulation, so I feel the cold. In the past I have worn a Dianese textile jacket over my leathers on cooler days. I recently trashed my latest jacket and am now in the market for something to replace it. Is there something better or different than a textile jacket? Something made for the purpose? What do you use?
Like you, I prefer to wear my (well worn) leather jacket all year round. Fortunately it has a removable lining and is relatively warm for most cold weather rides. I use a good quality rain jacket (currently a HELD Rainblock) over the leather for wet weather and when it gets a bit too chilly, I have large cheapy (Mountain Warehouse) fleece that goes over my leather and under the Rainblock which is wind proof as well. For cold starts I go Merino Base layer, then a Skin suit. Leathers and then either a windproof topper or a fleece. Only so much you can do - it's my hands that get cold really. Not the body
This on chilly morning starts then usually take it off should conditions allow Velcro to fasten it easy on/off. If it ‘s a long commute into work then a windproof layer between my day clothes and leathers. I have the Blue version, my mate has the Silver. https://www.infinitymotorcycles.com...eNGVYiGmdOQnat9x6dndRVJQZq9joi60aAn6xEALw_wcB
I use one of these which squashes down to a manageable size: https://www.motolegends.com/motorcycle-accessories/scott-ergo-pro-dp-rain-jacket-yellow.html - a well made piece of kit...
I too am on the lean side, Done 100 miles this afternoon. in temps around 12C I Normally wear Merino base layer top, Bamboo or Ronhill on my legs, 2-piece leathers, Sealskinz socks and a Craghoppers or Berghaus waterproof jacket. Still a bit chilly even at mostly sub 60mph on an unfaired bike. Any colder and I don't usually venture out, if I do, have a fleece top under the leathers and a textile winter coat with liner, but I then feel like Bibendum and don't enjoy the ride that much.
I wear lot of knox stuff as I reckon it's really good. Just bought one of these and it's great and good value https://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/product/knox-cold-killers-mk2-mens-wind-jacket-blue-collection
Thanks for all of the suggestions. Things to wear under my leathers aren’t going to work, though. There’s no room for them. It’s got to be something to wear over the leathers. Fortunately there’s no hump on the set I wear when road-riding.
There’s certainly no room under my leathers razz.In fact there’s hardly any room for me let alone thermal garments.
The Klim Zephyr would go under leathers, it’s created for keeping the wind out and folds up to nothing. I’d also wear a proper base layer, not a cotton Tee shirt
+1. And some base-layers work better than others, e.g. Halvarssons’ brilliant Warm Wool Polo: https://www.motolegends.com/motorcycle-accessories/halvarssons-warm-wool-polo-sweater-in-grey.html
