Does anyone have a Sonos system that works perfectly with no skips or jumps etc ? Most of the time my system is OK but periodically it goes bananas with the Error Log indicating connection with my laptop has been lost, obviously temporarily. I am currently repositioning components to try and achieve greater reliability, but it still isn't perfect. An internet search throws up all kinds of problems, but that is the nature of the internet, is anyone entirely happy with their Sonos system ?
I don't have a Sonos system but as you are streaming off your laptop you will be reliant on 2 seperate wifi connections to the router staying stable. have you considered plugging a usb hard drive into the router and using it as a network drive? That way you can transfer all your music onto it so you don't need the laptop on and in theory it should be more stable too.
I have a big Sonos system - 10 different rooms - both in the house which has big thick stone walls and reaching across to the detached garage with the office upstairs. It was REALLY bad - dropping out, rooms vanishing off the list, unable to load playlists etc. - but I have had help from Sonos support and I have learnt that in a challenging environment like mine there is a lot more to the optimal set-up of Sonos than meets the eye. I sent them a diagnostic and a detailed description of the issues that I was getting. They scheduled a call with me where they spent almost a full day helping me to sort out the system - I shared my desktop with them and they reconfigured my router, I sent them photos of where my Sonos units were sited, they advised on possible sources of interference, how to better situate the units, we tried experiments of moving units, running another diagnostic, rebuilding the system etc. It is now a LOT better. It still isn't perfect though, so they have kept my "issue" open and I have another call scheduled with them to fine tune it further. Go to Ask a Question and give it a go. Highly recommended.
I have a sonos its superb ... You mean people pay to have sonos installed, crazy. That's money for old rope!
I stream via an AppleTV and a couple of apple base stations. Job done. Rarely looses wifi. 60secs to restore if and when. Sonos looks pretty cool mind. But I'm a cheapskate.
It was a toss up between Sonos and Apple TV, but Apple Tv only has optical audio out (I believe ?) so it's harder to connect to older hardware. When Sonos works, which is most of the time, it is very good but annoying little glitches tends to spoil the experience. I am trying a number of things to improve the reliability at the mo.
Tell him/her to get a proper job! There's a new sonos Beta controller app out that seems to work better, more stable
You are correct John, only optical out. But handy for me as my receiver/amp has numerous optical in channels. I also like the AppleTV interface. However as I have all my stuff on iTunes its very handy. I suspect it would be shit if I didnt so you are locked into apple in a sense which I can understand people may not want. Whats handy are the basestations. I use them with a couple of sets of powered speakers (cant remember make but fine for kitchen/bathroom etc but audiophiles probably wont be happy) and I can move them around. They even worked in my garage but they kept loosing wifi as its a fair distance away. That Sonos though looks top notch. You may just need some wifi access points to spread your wifi better. Ive been looking into the home plug network ones as Ive the ethernet ones and theyve worked well ever since I got them back in the day, but now everything is gigabit and wifi has moved on I need to replace them. I might try them with built in wifi access points as ive a wifi cold spot in my bedroom when doors are shut etc.
he was considering it a while back when Glasgow school of art burnt down a couple of days after he installed a projector in the room that burnt down. god was he sh.ting it.
I currently have everything in the same room and I am still getting the odd glitch. Changed WiFi channels and clear of devices that may cause interference. Better but not perfect, but given that whatever is causing the interference is sporadic it is difficult to be certain about anything.
I set mine up initially with a bridge attached to the router and the speakers elsewhere - no problems. I've since moved stuff around and now have attached one Sonos speaker direct to the router and eliminated the bridge - still no problems. Mine has worked faultlessly now for a couple of years, never stuttered or glitched. I pull most of my stuff off a 3tb NAS drive attached direct to the router, but I also stream from a tablet, my phone, or the net.
Hi john I use a bridge with 1 playbar set up with 2 play ones 2 play threes and 1 play5 All works seemlessly
