Hello Ducati forum, just wondering if anybody here can give me advice on whether or not to fit my new spaghetti header pipes to my 900 superlight. The bike is pretty much standard apart from stage 2 dynojet fitted to the carbs, open airbox and K&N. Will it run OK with the spaghetti pipes fitted? I did attempt to fit them a couple of weeks ago, and it seems I've got to make adjustments to the hanger brackets. I can't run the bike and try yet, because still got lots of work to do. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.
I would think that the cans on the end would make the biggest difference. I have stage 2 open box with K&N but also straight through cans. I'm sure there will be more information to follow
Yeah I think the straight through cans do make a big difference. I was running the bike with Sil moto end cans, and with the stage 2 and open box it was running fine. I spoke to a Ducati technician today, and he said it will run OK with the spaghettis. The biggest problem I've got is getting them to fit correctly. According to the Ducati technician you have to make adjustments here and their to make them fit, bit of a pain really. The bikes been completely stripped painted and re-built, so I'll put the original headers back on for now, and just get the bike running. Maybe have a go at fitting the spaghettis later on.
I got a set of Stainless Steel headers from Mark at MADASL Racing but they fit like a glove, the bike had high level cans before and had to be set up again to ensure it was running at its best. Yorkie
I have a set of the sil motor headers on my carby SS, they are a bit of a pain to fit but persist and you'll get them on ; ) As for the performance gains, not a great deal considering what they cost. Not much more than 2 or 3 hp but if you're tuning the engine you might get a few more. They do give better ground clearance though...
2 or 3hp sounds OK to me, considering I didn't expect any gains in performance. I just bought them for cosmetic reasons really (they look great). When I was talking to Ducati technician today, he told me he had to cut them to make them fit. The thought of taking an hacksaw to an exhaust I've just paid £670.00 is not a nice thought really. But yeah, i'm pretty sure I'll get them to fit.
I was thinking of getting the Sil headers as I have the cans and Flatslides. Planning a 944 piston kit, so it may be worth it. Bike needs set up though.
I have the MADASL spaghetti headers on my Monster and whilst I've not got round to dyno time on them yet (must do soon) I'm fairly certain that there is an improvement but then they are also larger bore than the originals as well as being of more equal length. The engine definitely seems to 'breathe' better with them, particularly out of the left pipe as before the flow was very much biased out of the right side can. I will hazard a guess that I may have a decent gain because I'm certain that the old system was strangling the flow? Edited to add the obligatory pic;
Are your spaghetti pipes termignoni or another brand? If they're termi then they'll never fit right, and for the true back in the day termi spaghetti system you'll need higher rear sets as the sweep of the silencer pipe is different and they are a bigger bore as well. Don't hacksaw! That's the difference between a proper fitter and builder vs a spanner spinning bolter. First slave build your pipes to see of everything fits (off the bike). Then loose fit everything to the bike- don't go winding everything as soon as you fit it. Line everything up and start nipping stuff up going round as you go. That way you see where it's failing. If it's termi they're build quality is shite. I'll tell you now that the exhaust mouths will sit on the wonk, and you'll be playing with hangers like eccentric adjusters. If you get indicator contact either drop the hanger if you can or shim the underside of the indicator to raise it. You only need 5mm or so cold as the expansion in the system will make the whole system 'grow' rearward a by around 10mm as you're going along. Methodically is the key here. If you have an akro set (amazing quality) and really want termi then just do what one race team done and park a termi sticker over it.
Hi Sev, I don't know if termis. When I get a chance I'll post some pictures, hopefully somebody here will be able to tell me what make they are. I've already fitted them loosely to the bike, and nothing lines up. The pipe is touching the crankcase underneath, and the exhaust mouth are wonky. When I try to straighten them the downpipe from the vertical cylinder touches the swingarm. Judging by what you are saying, they are most probably termi. I'm not going to cut anything until I'm 100% sure I can get them to fit right. The bike is on stands at the moment in the corner of the garage. As soon as I get the wheels back from the paint shop and fitted on, I'll have another crack at it, Rich
No they look different. My guess is they are Sil motors. The company in Germany sold me Sil motor end cans for the same bike, so I assumed the spaghettis were also Sil motor. I bought off a company called www.danielemoto.com. I think they use to be a partner of spareshack. Soon as I get a chance I'll post a pic. Rich
oops, here's the correct link for daniele moto www.daniele-moto.de Just checked the catalogue daniele sent me, and my headers are Sil motor. I'm quietly confident I'll get them to fit, Rich
Chard, don't know how close you are to us but you are welcome to visit for us to help if we can. Have experience fitting our own and sil headers.
Thanks MADASL, you are quite a distance from me, it would be a bit difficult to get over to you. It's not a big problem to fit them, I just have to modify the down pipe from the vertical cylinder. The pipe has to be cut and a sleeve fitted. I can fit without modifying the pipe but that would mean having to raise the rearsets and modifying hanger brackets. I'm still undecided what I'm going to do with them at the moment. Think I'll leave fitting the headers till last.
