First off I'll appologise if this topic has been done to death but I'm a little confused about the differences in plugs that seem to be being recommended for the 900SS. So the bike won't start, plugs are wet and sooty, checked the spark there is one, a bit orangy in colour. Battery is 12 years old - P680, so new battery & plugs. Currently running Champions which are okish. Seems most people run NGK plugs and here is the confusion. The NGK plug finder says DCPR8E (4339) plugs where as common opinion seems to favour DPR8EA-9 plugs. So can some one tell me what's the difference and which one to use please?
The DCPR8E has a smaller ⅝" hex, the DPR8EA-9 has a different 'special design' tip, whatever that means, with the gap preset to 0.9mm. The bigger gap helps to prevent the plug fouling. This a chart showing what the NGK numbering means.
