  1. ok guys whats everyones preference on makes of sparkplugs
    and why
have used ngk quite a lot and also bosch
but have to say I have reservations on ngk R rated plugs due to personal experience

also do platinum plugs make that much of a difference in your average bike and are they worth the extra cost

just a thought to see what everyone has to say as people on here have track bikes as well as people with road bikes

go on throw in your moneys worth:upyeah:

  2. they appear to use the same ecu as on fiats, if incorrect Resistance will switch off can systems on puntos, dont ask me why but have experienced this in the workshop.

  3. champion qa55v on my 853r

  4. So you must have some really good reason
have used one set of NGK Iridium plugs in mine ......they have probably done 80,000 miles bargin

  5. can understand why for resistor spark plugs
just the issues I have had with them is even though they deliver a good spark
have instances where engine will not run
have to admit it was mainly on 2 strokes
had issue on more than one occasion even with brand new plugs
replace with non resistor plug and all seems fine
    strange I know

  6. Your Ducati has an ECU within a foot of 2 non resistor spark plugs.......recon you could have some more complications

  7. have not changed plugs on my duke yet
just thought I would get some feedback on different brands and real world difference between standard plugs and platinum ones
but some good info coming up aswell

  8. stick with copper.
platinum lasts longer but is not as conductive and loads your coils more and has no real world benefit

  9. I had 'normal' NGK plugs in my SS...........thought I would change them for new 'normal' Champion...........tried two sets.......cr*p, tiny spark......nowhere near as big a spark as from the NGKs which in my opinion were long overdue for a change.........Stuck new 'normal' NGKs in, transformed they way the engine runs (and it didn't run badly before I changed them apart from an issue I resolved)

  10. I have Iridium plugs in all my bikes and I have never had a problem. I tried Champion QA55's on my 748R but it didn't like them after a few miles and ran much better when I changed to iridium. I would rate them for the track though.

  11. you are totally right Johnboy re: 'R' for resistor designated plugs. I have made a point of avoiding them for over 30 years particularly if resistor leads are used anyway. They produce a better spark when you need it in the winter and particularly on bikes with low power ignition systems like your 2 -stroke. If you are ever worried that you are not suppressed just run the bike up near the house and turn the television on :upyeah: as for the Iridium/Platinum versus Copper etc well that argument will run and run. For road/high mileage I think std core is fine (MOO).

  12. well some good info so far sounds like most people are running ngk
as for champion plugs al well only good lawnmowers lol

  13. Yh i run ngk too. The ones with out the electode to cope with H/C pistons. Had the horizontal one oil up occasionally but they clean up ok and not had one fail so to speak.

  14. No, champion are fine - you just need to be going quickly. None of this road riding malarky for QA55V plugs.
