Speeding Ticket Spain

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by broke, May 25, 2018.

  1. My mate has been done for 143k on a 120k road , A-23.

He's been kindly invited to contribute €100 to the Spanish economy, but if he does it within 20days, they only want him to contribute €50.

My question is, dose anyone know or have an idea of what the consequences are if he chooses to not contribute.
    Thanks, Broke.

  2. Spain? I suspect the Spanish Inquisition may enjoy a trip to the uk to visit your friendwithout an appt.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition .....

  3. Mate, I have within the last 2 weeks paid the 50 euro's from our Spain trip, think it was £43 ish. If you don't pay it, they have your passport details that go with the reg, so will just get you next time to the tune of at least the original 100 euro's I reckon ? So, get your mate to pay, log on to that site, its done in seconds. :D

PS. Have you not recently been to Espanol Gareth ?? Hmmm, "My mate" you say

  4. Jesus man, you know some sly characters if they are fancying there chances at not paying a 50euro's fine. For their own actions in a world of reactionary police. It's not like your riding in South-America or South-Africa were the cops expect brides..

  5. Pay up and put it down to trip expenses. Not worth the potential future hassle not to.

  6. I was caught speeding over in Ireland a few years back. My brother in law was in the guards at the time told me to ignore it as the red tape and follow up was too much hassle for the authorities to bother with. There was no follow up.
So I applied the same logic recently when I was using the Dublin ring road, M50. It's a toll road where you pay for using it after via online. Guess I was experimenting with the idea of how good/ quick the digital age has become with the use of advanced vehicle recognition technology and foreign cars. sure enough I received a bill, with photo evidence, for the original cost of €3.00 plus a fine of I think €2.00.
I would say things have moved on.

  7. Does that mean if i send them my wife .i will no longer owe them anything?

  9. Slightly unrelated, but my old man got a parking ticket in bled slovenia around 7 years ago, he chucked it in the bin thinking they won't bother, wrong they chased the money and got it, its like 1 euro 20 an hour to park in a small car park by the ice rink so innocuous but don't underestimate.

  10.

  11. @royalwithcream has a loyalty card in this area I believe

    May be able to help

  12. I got zapped twice within an hour near Malaga. I think I got stropograms from Spain for 300 euros. European speeding fines are a luxury for those who can afford it. Quick as a flash- I paid fuck all...

  17. DB, you don't have any upcoming driving convictions so you can rest easy.

    That'll be 50 Euros, please.

  18. On a side note- my sister just got nabbed on her Kawasaki Z1000 in Switzerland. 59kmh in a 40kmh zone. £900 fine thank you very much.... then her rear tyre fell apart. A rather expensive day for the poor lass.

  20. If the fine notification sent in the post was not signed for when received then there is no proof that your friend got it, other than this thread. How can you pay a fine that you never received notification of?

I’m not aware of foreign countries sending debt collectors around to get payment for small speeding fines especially if they don’t send a registered post letter first. However if you are stopped by police for a driving infringement in the same region riding the same bike expect them to want payment for the outstanding fine. The police are highy unlikely to stop you at the border and demand payment before letting you into Spain and neither are they likely to have your reg number ping up on an ANPR system and give chase to get their €50.

My personal experience is that I got a very large fine in France, but was unable to pay the full amount in cash (I was about €100 short) and the police had no way to take card payments. The local prosecutor agreed that what I paid was ok and that I didn’t need to go to court. Weeks later I got a letter in the post demanding more money. Apparently a court (in my absence) had decided that I should give them more money. The letter was not signed for, so there is no proof that I ever received it. I have not received any follow up letters or a visit from debt collectors. I have been back to France on the same bike and was not arrested, however I have yet to be stopped again by the French police who may be able to link me to an unpaid fine, although I have now changed my address and bike, so they’d have to do a bit of digging to link me to the fine. Since the fine I got a French council flat and nobody flagged up an outstanding fine during that process.
