Speedway World Championship, Brit Champ?

  1. Final round Saturday.

Anyone watching this on Eurosport? New to Sky this year I picked up on it a couple of rounds in and really like it mainly because Brit Tai Woffenden has been riding his way up the championship despite a broken collarbone about 3 rounds back and rebreaking it last round. He needs 6 points this weekend to get the big cup. I don't know how he's recovering but with 3,2,1,0 points in each heat he should be good for it. He's a mean looking, likeable character and is really riding well. The opposition are mainly Scadinavian and Eastern European with tricky names. Its a 3hour programme but I spin through the replays after each heat to condense it a bit. The grid girls on the startline are pretty hot too:smile:

  2. Is it being held on the Wembley dog track?

  3. Yes I watched it. I've always been into speedway since watching it often with family as a boy in Wimbledon. Tai is a worthy champion and so young too. We can look forward to a good few years of him in the top flight yet.

It I shameful btw, how the sport is wholly ignored by the press - motorcycle and otherwise!

  4. Used to get taken to Crayford Kestrels as a young 'un by my dad.

  5. HULL VIKINGS...rip

  6. Still quite popular here in NZ as well, although we no longer have to flight riders anymore.

  7. I've been watching it all year, some good racing generally but seems to depend on the track. Used to go watch Halifax Dukes at the Shay, Eric Boocock was top man.

  8. I used to go to Cleveland Park years ago. In fact I used to work there for 2-3 years too. First selling programmes and then I was promoted to raking the track between races :upyeah:

My favourite rider was Frank Auffrett - Frank Auffret - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

  9. I used to go to Cradley Heathens most Saturday nights and Wolverhampton on Fridays when Ole Olsen was in his pomp.

Wonderful memories! I can still smell the two stroke oil!!!!

  10. Eric is still a top man he's a mate of mine.
