Anybody taken the splash guard off their 1200 Multistrada. Have you replaced the chain guard extension which comes off with the splash guard. Good or bad idea?:biggrin:
yeah I and a number of my multi riding mates have removed the guard with no issues at all. In practice I'm not convinced it made much difference as my wife used to get a muddy back when riding without the top box anyway. The bike / pillion certainly don't appear to get any more dirty with it removed.
Thanks guys. Did you put a chain guard extension on or just leave it, was thinking about chain lube flying around.
Took mine off along with the half round chain guard 10k miles ago. Also fitted an R&G tail tidy, which doesn't help with the mud flinging. As the rider (don't carry passengers), without a bag or the top box on the back, my jacket gets covered in crud, which wasn't nearly as bad, pre the modifications. I think they actually do work? I use Profi-Drylube, so no chain oil fly off problems.
I would like to take my splash guard off too but It looks a bit unfinished with the chain guard part missing. Also I have a scottoiler so it would likely go everywhere. I am hoping someone will design a chain guard extension to get around these problems. Anyone of you Aztec types up for it - there would likely be quite a market?
There is a carbon fibre part available for £70, not black plastic, trouble is once you start on carbon fibre route it's a second mortgage job.
I tried a to paste the link but still finding the I pad confusing. If you go onto ebay and search for carbonworld.uk, then look for the chain guard extention
Wow all you guys taking your mud splash guard off. And me just wanting one to put on. If any one decides they want to sell theirs please let me know. I know I can get a carbon one on ebay but i want just the standard one.
What is the difference between the two, not sure what the other one gives you? chain guard rear carbon for Ducati Multistrada 1200 | eBay And this one, which doesn't show a picture of it on the bike chain guard carbon Ducati Multistrada 1200 | eBay
The top one's write up says "please note: this rear chain guard can be used without the big wheel cover only!" whereas the bottom one's says "oem version, you can combine the item very nice with the wheelcover (item no. 015mt)".
They both look the same to me. Despite what it says, they both mount in the same way, using both of the top bolts to the rear hub. So it looks like they can be fitted with / without the rear splash uard.
As soon as i removed the crud catcher a stone damaged my carbon hugger, And shite gets flung onto my back but its still off!
Why thank you Mac. I have, and yes they are different but both mount in the same way - two top bolts and one lower bolt. So just to be more precise, it looks like item 1e72f73514 can only be used without the rear splash guard, and the other one (item 1e7014bdf5) looks like it is shaped such that it can be used with and without the splash guard. Hope that helps clarify. Why not give them a call and see what they say ?
I like the look of it when its off, but when it rains the Mrs doesnt half get covered in crappy road grime!! So i think it does work!!
Unfortunately the "other one" doesn't sit so well without the crud catcher to hold it in position, which puts it at risk of getting chomped by the chain/sprocket.
