1 year old 1200S and no problems yesterday. This morning planned trip to norfolk coast with mates and "bike wont start". Starter motor turning no probs, checked fuel is in tank but ok- on stand off stand, and tried in 1st with clutch in- still nothing. Presume fuel or ignition problem, In distant days would have checked fuel and sparks myself but reluctant to start on year old bike. Just waved my mates off on the trip- so coffee and to the forum tom share !! Any ideas - if not dealer tomorrow!
First off is the battery fully charged ....easy ones first it might turn the engine but not be enough for ECU
Battery fine- on Optimate when in garage. Curiously just went out to fiddle and started. Initially started - turned bike off and wouldn't re start. 10 minutes later started without problem and short ride and seem absolutely fine, Just a bit anxious not to know cause in case it "lets me down". S'pose could just have been a bit of "dirt' in the fuel?
possibly fowled plugs from starting from cold then switching it off. seen this quite a lot on cars when it happens it can sound like the T.belt has snapped and engine turns faster.
Next time it does it put your ear to the tank a listen for the fuel pump running , when ignition first put on pump will prime for a few seconds then knock off , when cranked pump should run whilst cranking .
I had same thing happen about 6months ago . Pushed bike back in garage , tried again about 15mins later and bingo - it started. It was almost like the old days and a flooded carby ! Coughed a bit then all good ? Took to dealer , could not find anything wrong . No error codes. I thought it may have been a " dodgy" tank of fuel I got at out of way place on previous fill ?
Maybe it was an omen, I got diverted twice yesterday http://www.nwemail.co.uk/news/four-dead-in-cumbria-road-accidents-today-sunday-1.1126377 The roads around the lake district were heaving with cars in both directions, that's always a recipe for bike deaths.
jcmental thats a sad post. My mate was complaining the other day when we had the first dry warm Sun down here in the South of dangerous riding by some bikers on the A272 when he had to take avoiding action to avoid a head on collision, because they were on his side of the road on blind bends. He was on his bike at the time ! Must admit I prefer to ride during the week in the Summer. Tragic.
Think DucDave may be right- seems now as nothing happened. Due for annual service In April so will see what "they" say. My mates rode up to Castle Acre, without me, and reported back to say the rides were stuffed and some stupid beggars around- so not gently enjoyed . Perhaps an omen. Castle Acre a great place to ride to - if out this way or en route to the Norfolk coast.
Anyway 24 hours on and an evening ride out into the fens with a mate for a " lemonade". Bike started without fault and rode as always brilliantly into the fens. And everyone behaving!
