sprocket carrier

  1. Why the fuck do you have to buy a new sprocket carrier when getting new chain and sprockets or am i missing something here, The more i look at whats available the more confusion sets in..More wine i think!

  2. I've not had a replacement on my MTS yet but on my Hyper I had the same issue. Apparently the non standard carrier allows cheaper rear sprockets.

My next set will be back to original as the non standard aren't very pretty.

    Not sure if that helps

  3. Cheers mate, Things are becoming a bit clearer now.

  4. If you look at the standard sprocket (around £120) it has the holes for the cush drive rubbers, normal sprockets are just sprockets so you buy a carrier to hold the cush drives (about £80) then you can change sporckets much easier and cheaper (around £25) and the carriers are usually lovely milled ally so it looks much better.

  5. and more to the point they have a section that stops the carrier from wandering in towards the swing arm and damaging each other (certainly on the older models)

  6. I have just took the sprocket off of the std carrier there is a lip on the sprocket to stop it moving towards the carrier but no lip to stop it moving towards the swing arm...........not surprisingly the same as a 1994 916............

So in answer to the OP original question you dont have to buy a new carrier, but it is the smarter way of doing business.....and as a by product you can get to change sprocket sizes if required within reason (chain length)
