Anyone know the dimensions of the sprocket nuts for a 97' 600ss. Thread pitch etc.etc, I seem to be getting conflicting sizes on various sites.
Apologies.........I was delayed at the quacks.......... What them above say................ The only thing I can add is that the nuts on both my sprocket sets are 'odd' in their appearance.........they have a slight oval shap to the hole...........there is name for them, but I can't recall what it is. It is to stop them from coming undone......so if you use non-OEM ones check to see if they are of the same shape, if not, Loctite the b*ggers on. PS....They are flanged as well. AL
The oval nuts are called elliptical offset nuts; they look like normal nuts but squashed slightly to make them oval. They come in different types depending on requirements (some lock via the thread, some lock as they are squashed at the top, some are squashed all the way down) but all have the same basic purpose, to mechanically lock the thread in some way. They are normally used where a nyloc would fail, eg in high temperature applications such as on the manifold studs. Personally I've never bothered with locking nuts on the rear sprocket but then I clean my chain often and so keep an eye on it. I would definitely recommend flanged nuts, but getting flanged nyloc or oval nuts can get expensive. Go for a stainless flanged M10 x 1.25 nut and make sure they're torqued and optionally use threadlock.
Thanks for the nut name, antonye........for the life of me I couldn't recall what it was.......Age, mate.....
