Sprocket Sizes on the 900ss

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by ck_uk, Feb 2, 2013.

  1. I always wish my Duc was a bit "longer in the leg", for lower revs in top gear. Just looking for a bit of advice as to what might be the suggested optimum front/back sprocket size to enable this. I don't know what size my sprockets currently are but they are not original.

  2. OEM gearing is 15/37 which as Steve has said is far too tall for normal use. I've modified mine to 15/39 which helped a lot with the around town riding. The other popular ratio is 15/40 but this I found made the front wheel a little to ready to come up.

  4. Let me get this straight, the OP was asking for the reverse of the solution offered?

  5. Ooops you are right. :frown:

First I've heard of anyone wanting taller gearing though

  6. But then the OP did say his sprockets were not original. Perhaps his gearing has already been modified and a liitle too short. FWIW, I am still using standard sprockets on my 900 SS carby and not a problem for me in town provided the carbs are properly set up. Crawling through traffic at walking speed is another matter however and a royal PITAhope this helps

  7. The 900SS is almost unrideable with standard setup in heavy traffic..dropped mine to 14 teeth on the front. Expect Nigelo is correct, or perhaps the OP never goes into town?

  8. I dropped mine to 14 as well, but for it to feel a bit frenzied at higher speeds I can only presume his set up has probably gone up on the rear as well? Still at least he'll be saving on front tyre wear as it won't be on the ground much!

  9. At least the OP knows what the OEM gearing should be.
