Just wathched the first and for me the last episode of the new drama on BBC called SS GB. It assumes the Nazi's occupy GB. When will we move on, it's 68 years now. Many many good people gave their life's to keep us safe and ensure we are what we are now but its not right for the citizens of Germany and the many German people who live here to keep reminding them of their past. We should not forget but do we need to keep on making TV programmes about a horrible time in our history.
Well, I was looking forward to it. A different slant on history (Amazon have been running a similar thing for a few years, haven't seen it, probably the one Jolley mentioned). What a disappointment. Can they get any more stereotyped? People being beaten by soldiers in the street. SS and gestapo charging around ignoring everyone, no finesse. And TBH pretty boring too. I'll try the next, just in case.
In the drama the occupying forces didn't get past the north of England so it looks like Scotland got it's FREEDOM.
I have also read the book but I can't remember a thing about it. All Len Deighton books were a good read though.
Not watched it although the BBC/British TV tends to do this when the yanks do something (make a half decent job of it i guess) - and then the BBC think "shit - people actually liked that..." then have a crack at it and usually tend to fail because... 1. Its already been done. 2. Have a beer budget. 3. Dont realize that people probably want to a. Watch the original and b. then get tarred with the "its already been done" brush.... They (not sure if it was the BBC) did it with Scrubs (a brilliant series) and failed so badly i cant even remember the name of it... The man in the high castle while ive not watched it apparently is good but not really my type of thing though but i can appreciate what they were trying to do though...
Man in the high castle is ok. It's well made with some reasonable acting and half decent story but moves along very slowly. It gets weirdy/Sci fi towards the end of the second series as if they ran out if storyline. I watched GB SS hoping it would be good but found it rather tiresome. I felt that the depiction of the German overseers was probably fairly accurate but the story just didn't leave me wanting to keep watching.
