Getting used to my new to me ST2 and servicing it over weekends when DIY doesn't interfere. Just rebuilt the brakes as they were a bit wooden and replaced the brake and clutch fluid as it was almost black. New oil and filter new coolant sensor and belts and shims next week. Forks will be next and despite rebuilding numerous bikes and owned bikes for 35 years never had to take apart USD forks. So will be replacing the fork seals dust seals and fork oil. Any hints and tips on stripping and fettling USD forks more than welcome. I do have the manual but personal experience is more than welcome.
There are some pretty good videos on you tube which demonstrate exactly what you need to know, this one is a good starter
A couple of things. When you come to re-assembly you need to prime the damper when filling up the oil. Pull the damper rod up slowly or, as I did the first time I did a pair of USD forks, you will spray oil up into the air like a spouting whale and drench yourself in fork oil. Also when fitting the springs it is easier if you screw the compression damper adjustment all the way in. This will help prevent the damper rod from falling back down into the fork.
Lol thanks for the tip Derek. Like to have seen that. Fixed a mates Harley last week but forgot to put the cover back on the timing case. He started it up and it looked like the Exon Valdez had leaked on his drive so we all make mistakes. New seals and dust seals on order and off out to buy some fork oil. Shame Halfords only do 30w or my trade card would come in handy. Thanks for Video links Denzil very useful
Do yourself a favour, save time and have a great working set by sending it to @PGP he did wonder on my set for not a lot of money and I used them to race with
