I was riding along a dual carriage way glancing in my drivers side blurry mirror, thinking 'oh well that Ducatis for you' thumping along and making the mirror blur. Then I noticed the left mirror was rock steady... I got home and checked the wayward mirror. Mounting and housing fine - the glass in the housing was wobbly. Carefully pried the outer colour coded mirror fairing and removed the glass. Basically the glass is held to the mount by double sided tape. Only a 3rd was still stuck to the glass. I glued it back to the mount and reinstalled - now I have two rock steady mirrors (above 3000 rpm anyhow!) Just thought it worth a check - not much longer and the whole glass would have fallen out... Glass on plastic backing - held on with double sided tape Fixing pin (this will feel tight as it works against a spring on the other side) Mick
I have the same problem on my st4s. Stripped the mirrors like you but there is no spring on the opposite side from the pin on mine , instead the plastic is moulded to accommodate the ball mount. The pin is very tight getting it in and manouvering the mirror is stiff but still get blurred mirrors (both) over 50mph.
Hi Olias - hmm - mine are rock steady above 50mph. Like yours they are in a recessed plastic cup but then sit against a spring which give its the tension not to vibrate - they took a good push to get the cross pin back in place (was worried about cracking the mirror) in the end I filed a tiny 'ramp' in the washer to start the pin on its journey and gingerly tapped it through. If I get time I'll revisit.
No spring but like you say the pin is a swine to get back in. I thought about putting some padding in the cup but if I do that I doubt I would get the pin in.
