ST4s rev counter

  1. Can any one help, I have a ST4s with a faulty rev counter. It seems ok until the lights are switched on and then its reading drops. I think it is voltage related. The reset button for the clock will not work either.

  2. Check your earths and loom connections.

  3. It is definitely voltage related. The revcounter is the first thing to stop working if the battery isn't charging. First make sure the regulator is keeping the battery volts up then have look inside the big black multiconnector on the LH side of the front subframe, below the fusebox, particularly the bottom half under the rubber boot. Expect to find a lot of corrosion in there.

  4. Many thanks, I shall now investigate further, any recommendations for best method of cleaning the multiconnector?

  5. I found that carb cleaner worked remarkably well and then cleaning the contacts with a fine brass wire brush. If it's really bad some of the wires may come away from the connector. If the do the only answer is to bypass the connector and make the connection externally. I hope it's not that bad.
