Standard 1100s Airbox Update Uk

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by mcsellski, May 17, 2024.

  1. Hi,

I’ve been crawling the threads about upgrading my new to me 2008 1100S. I’ve just sold on my V4 Tuono so the power difference is stark to say the least! Nonetheless I’m very happy and not drawing meaningful comparisons.

The HM is standard and very low mileage, less than 4,000! and I’d like to improve it.

Most of the 1100S modification information seems quite old so I’m after 2024 guidance from those that know.

If I fit an MWR air filter kit, must I do the ECU immediately to avoid damage of any kind.l? Or can I modify the air box and do the ECU after?

Who in the UK is able to work on the ECU, or is a piggy back module better, or is a DP ECU the right way to go?

Does anyone recommend a UK supplier for MWR? There seems to be countless online suppliers now, but most cant be bothered to show a picture of the right part so my confidence is low. Don’t these shops realise they’ll sell more if they show a picture of the right part for the right bike?! Why would I want an air filter for an I4 motor?!

Rant over. Looking forward to any help given.

    Matt

  2. Cannot help you re UK tuners as I am in Australia but my bike, an 1100 Evo, runs a Power Commander whilst a mate's 1100 Evo SP (both running the 2-1 Termi exhaust) has the factory ECU tuned (cannot remember via whom but TuneBoy/Rexxer etc and to be honest there really is not any discernible difference between them so I'd say get the factory ECU done.

Not sure if you'll be able to see this as it is from another forum .........

  4. I’m running the mwr on my 1100S hyper. I had my engine rebuilt & tuned, so after running it in I fitted the mwr & was told by the company that rebuilt the engine to keep the revs low until I’d had it mapped. I went for a proper map as was advised this was a far better route than going with a power commander. I was also advised that going with the mwr open top filter would provide slightly cooler air than going for stacks / cone filters. I cut my airbox below the joint as advised by another member on here at the time ( something to do with flow ) I first brought a second hand mwr but I later got in touch directly to them & ordered a new one.
One thing I will add though. I’m running a full Termi system on mine so it’s pretty loud. But the exhaust note is nothing compared to the induction noise from the mwr. Not so bad if your doing short journeys but believe me when I say, it’s absolutely unbearable on long journeys & at higher speeds. I’ve just recently returned from a trip to France on mine 3 days ago & my ears are still booming. Yes I know I should wear earplugs but I didn’t lol.
Oh! Forgot to add. I took mine to BSD performance for the map. Although I know CJS is very good he was a bit to far away from me.
