About to pull the plug on a permanent (flexible) air line installation and the web site shows a choice of coalescing filters. Both appear to have exactly the same specifications but doesn’t explain the difference between standard and intermediate. My tiny brain tells me an intermediate filter should have another filter further down the line but I have no experience of compressed air installations. The second question is, would two in-line filters be better than one where moisture content is the primary issue ? The compressor I’ve chosen has plenty of volume flow and pressure for all my applications should a two filter set up reduce flow and/or pressure at the tool. Thank you, Andy
A coalescing filter is intended to remove very fine particles and, most importantly, liquids such as oil droplets, water vapour etc They should always be preceded by a standard/particulate filter IIRC. I don't believe theat two-stage filtration like this causes significant restriction and, if you are intending to use the air line for paint spraying you really need both. For just air tool use you might not need the coalescing/separator.
I plan to practice some paint spraying and fancy copying the DIY media cabinet build done on here so ‘dry’ is my main concern. My current set up suffers from serious condensation problems. I’m going to have to dig a little further to find a standard (pre) filter. Thank you for the heads up. Andy
one tip - FWIW - is to drain the reservoir tank regularly, that's where most of the water ends up of course. Should be a drain plug on the bottom of the tank.
