Hi Over the last couple of days the starter button on my 1000 DS is getting more and more unresponsive. All the correct lights and lit up on the dash but when I press the starter button it only some times will trigger the starter motor. When it does the bike starts no problem. Heading home tonight I needed to hold the button in for 10 seconds or so before it responded and when I got home it wasn't responding at all. Bike's had a load of rain on it over the last few days - could it be some moisture's got into the switch or does this sound like a permanent failure? Thanks Chas
Chas, you need to determine if it is the switch or the starter solenoid. it could equally be a poor earth, so you will need to figure out what is at fault. Get a meter and check the output of the switch, and then the control signal to the starter. If you have the manual it should have the circuit diagram in the back of it. Hope that is of some help. Cheers, John.
I've had issues with my M750 due to broken wires within the loom where it passes the headstock and flexes when the bars are turned. I've heard of others having the same problem. Try holding the start button and waggling the bars from side to side. This usually caused mine to fire up.
