Starting With Fcr's

  1. Got my bike running pretty well at the moment, solved an issue I had with the ignitech unit by swapping out the pickup lobe on my lightened flywheel to a solid piece (the previous was drilled through and according to ignitech was the cause of an issue i had running the unit).

I do have one more niggle though that i am trying to sort though, any FCR peeps out there with advice if they have had the same issue.

It occurs when starting from cold, a couple of twists of the throttle to prime and the bike fires straight up but won't hold the idle untill this has been done a few times. I don't like to use the idle adjustment screw as its set just right for when the engine is warm. It's like its just running on the twisted prime fuel untill it eventually idles after a few goes of this. Once running the bike idles fine and runs sweet. My carbs have not done many miles since they were rebuilt by Harpers when fully stripped, cleaned and rebuilt.

    It may just be FCR's!!

  2. Good news is that it's only a cold issue then? I see you don't mention what happens when you try using the "choke" on each body - are they blanked off?

  3. No choke's on my carbs Chris as far as i can see, just the idle ajustment. Can these be retro fitted then?

  4. pretty sure you will be able to, often blanked because these are nominally race only carbs. Worth a look if you haven't already as it's a fairly subtle feature so could have missed it, a simple upward pull for on.

  5. So does this fit both carbs i.e one each side or one for both, mine are the dual side by side linked set up.

  6. one per carb body, same item.

  7. OK i assume the blank if there is removable etc or does this involve machining?
    Sorry for all the questions!!

  8. ask away, it's fine - have you clapped eyes on yours yet? Looks like an interference fit core plug fitted on the one I just looked at.. Chances are you have chokes already! :) Best look at yours before anything else. :upyeah:

  9. On reflection, I don't think yours will have starter chokes looking at a few kits just now, and bearing in mind what a whole heap of trouble these usually turn into if anything but brand new/tip-top condition, I would just put up with warming on the throttle from cold if it were me. :upyeah::)

  10. Sound just like mine. They are great once started, which is usually a little temperamental. They are, as stated, racing carbs. You could always turn the idle up for a minute or two

  11. As a young lad I blew the engine up in my DT125MX and fitted an IT175 engine with it's associated carb.
That didn't have a choke, but I developed a solution for a fast idle to warm it up without having to sit and hold the throttle open.

It was simply a Mole grip on the twist grip that rested on the brake lever and held the throttle slightly open whilst I got my gear on.

If I was doing it these days I'd probably try a large elastic band around the twistgrip and master cylinder that gave enough friction to be able to set the throttle in a position without it returning to the stop.
