New as I am to the world of the 1100 Hyper I was wondering what the general view on steering dampers is. I have checked the tyre pressure and they appear right the BT016's are nearly new and at 32psi, but the front end seems twitchy as anything I have ever ridden. is this normal? is it me? I am 6 2" and used to riding sat on the tank, weigh 12 and a half stone but haven't messed with the suspension yet. I am fairly certain the suspension is set OK but it just wants to shake its head on the way out of corners? any helpful comments appreciated.
You aren't going mad! Likewise I'm 6'2'' and packing 12.5 stone and it was uber twitchy until I fitted a damper and now its a different beast. Highly reccomend - I went for the gold ohlins damper which isn't cheap but fully adjustable and worth every penny. Its particularly noticable at high speed on the motorway as my tank slapper fear has now gone away completely. Get one!
Not sure I agree with it being superior - the ohlins is a rotary damper and equally as active plus easier to adjust and looks nicer in my opinion.
Use a Matris 16 setting damper on my 996 no complaints but can't say if its better than ohlins without trying it on the same bike...comes down to .personal choice I guess
Agree. And if I was being totally honest the ohlins rotary sits on top of the clamp which means locating the sat nav (iPhone tomtom) somewhere else....
Had one on my last hyper - never used it, never needed it. Got one on my rsv4 (ohlins) never switched it on....never had to. Caned the arse off of it last year at the TT for 5 days 20+ runs over the mountain....im sure I never reached its limit but had not a sniff of a tank slapper. Same with the old 1100s I had - took that to the TT as well....never had to switch that on either. Hit the top end quite a few times over the mountain...if anything I would say the harder I rode the 1100s the more compliant it became...strange. Thought Id throw the cat amongst the pigeons...
Happy to accept that cat, I am hoping that as I get used to her I will relax into her more, the bars are just very wide.
Dont hang onto the bars that tight. If you can grip the tank a bit with your knees by squeezing. Dont be a sail!!!
