Your never too old to learn hey.. Probably the film I've watched the most ist and have passed onto my Kiddies to be one of their faves too.. The Great Escape.. I genuinely didn't realise until tonight after watching a prog about SMc, that he actually was riding two bikes so to speak in the great motorcycle chase.. Seen in his woolly jumper and light coloured pants (as they like to say in the USA) tearing away from the German outriders, well it was also SMc chasing as the leading outrider, he actually was the guy chasing SMc or Shultz... Look close on YouTube and you will see him as per pics below, behind the goggles... It's SMc... And ahead of him across the fields was SMC... Well, until the jump piece anyway.. X
Ha... Yeah, in amongst all the " yeah Mans" I discovered something new.. I like old Henry though.. Reminds me of Marmite in a way...
i q like Henry as well as his progs, ( worlds best rides etc ) ,,, what i find strange is that no other bike " enthusiasts " had realised the use of the triumphs in the movie,, surely would be considered a gaff nowadays....... SMQ was q a guy, a true petrol head by all accounts,,, but some of those old hollywood " friends " are a bit off,,, including steves son,, bit strange that one !!
Except that everybody noticed in 1963 that some bikes in the film which are supposed to be BMWs are obviously Triumphs. There were plenty of jokes about this at the time, repeated every Xmas whenever The Great Escape is shown again on TV. Was there really anybody at all who hadn't realised this fact?
:kissingclosed: ooops,, only me i guess,, ( tho had seen the movie when it came out first was never really a great fan and never watched a rerun )
