Can anyone advise if you can buy a cylinder repair kit for the clutch lever? My levers gone strange and I'm having to physically push the lever back to get purchase on the friction plate. Looks like the piston inside the lever has given up. Thanks in advance
I believe you can source the spares from a KTM dealer as ducati don't do rebuild kits and they reasonably priced from KTM too
Return Spring broken??? Parts can be obtained from KTM dealerships. I got parts for mine from a dealer called Trevor Pope. They have parts diagrams on line.
Indeed it is! Pretty sure its the cylinder within the lever assembly where the master cylinder sits. When you squeeze the lever it feels ultra stiff and has simply stopped springing back. Had to physically push the lever back forwards again. Ducati dont sell repair kits. Whole new total level assembly is nigh on £300!!!
Of interest. Ducati don't sell repair parts or kits due to a legal case in the good old USA where some Herbert bought a kit to repair a calliper, did it wrong, binned the bike and sued Ducati (apparantly)
Can you take the lever off and operate the piston. It might be a sticky lever , you will be able to see the pivot then too. I had a bendy pushrod on my 900 that caused problems , it was fine after a bit of staightening.
My mechanic has stripped down the lever and pump and its all chewed up inside with loads of scoring and damage. Its been really iffy for a while to be fair. Ive decided to go for a new Brembo RCS clutch and brake system to replace the oem items. Big investment but have no plans to part with the 999 so went for it. All I read about them seems very positive and my thinking is that I might be able to sell the items Im taking off and recover some cost. Nothing wrong with the brake at all but didnt want handlebars with mismatched levers so had to bite the bullet and order a replacement brake as well.
Bit of an update on this thread with unfortunately a very sad twist. I had the bew RCS levers fitted last Friday and went to collect the 999 around 430. Perfect road and weather conditions. I literally rode 300metres from the garage when disaster unfolded. Tickling along at 30 mph ish in built up area. When a myopic car driver in a golf reversed off his drive into the road about 30metres from me. Couldnt swerve due to opposing traffic. Grabbed a handful and footfull of brake but to no avail. Bike went down and I parted company. My bike is a write off. Im devestated! Must have went down at no more than 20mph but it slid and ended up with the front end under his back bumper off which he continued to keep reversing over and managed to bend the headstock, forks and frame. For what its worth the levers were bloody lovely. Clutch was like a well oiled rifle bolt. If anyone fancies buying a pair of virtually new RCS levers give me a shout as ive had them stripped off. Bit of road rash on clutch lever though. One less 999 on the road now Im afraid.
Thankfully witnessed by car driver behind me who has stated that I didnt have a chance so should be ok.
I've literally just bought a really nice condition 2006 749 in yellow, needs the cold starting looking at. Running really, really rich and needs the choke on slightly to stop stalling. Will get it to my trusted spanner man Asap but I'm hoping nothing major needed to sort.
