Sticky Switches

  1. The left handle bar switch box on my Multistrada 1200 has gone a bit sticky and it seems that the button that scrolls thru the settings is not contacting properly. I plan on opening the switch box to clean the contacts. Has anyone ever done this before? Can I expect to end up with a handful of springs and contactors? Any advice please?

  2. Yes... that could happen. Open carefully.

  3. Could you blast some electrical contact cleaner through it. Evaporates super quick, just do it with your ignition switched off. Agitate the buttons while its still fluid..

  4. ^^^^^^ that's what I'd do.

  5. What are you spraying the controls with after you've washed the bike down?

  6. I probably did not word this post too well.
The switch is not sticky, it does not change the display or allow me to adjust the settings anymore.
I guess an experimental disassembly is required:cool:

  7. Don't try to take it apart, you will almost certainly break it. The contacts make a sliding contact so pressing harder doesn't work. Remove the switch and apply contact cleaner to it as suggested above while operating the functions. Once you have it working satisfactorily apply a little ACF50 to keep it oxidation free.
