One of my hero's Bruce Anstey has been recognized in NZ, motorcycling hardly ever makes the mainstream here, but..... TT star Bruce Anstey awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit - MoreBikes well deserved, so happy for him, made the major news here as well.
Quite right too. About time. He should also get and award for oldest, most bearded and most Kiwi TT hero. And all round good bloke. In all seriousness, what with McGuinness chasing records and the ongoing soap opera of Guy Martini's career, Anstey has been somewhat overlooked. He doesn't always get the credit and the recognition he deserves.
I have a fair amount of family in New Zealand and beyond rugby they have no idea they partake in any sports I'm sure of it!
For such a small population, the Kiwis have had more than their fair share of top racing drivers. But bike racers seem few and far between - with the obvious exception of the legendary Burt Munro, obviously... Wall of Fame | MotorSport New Zealand I remember in the mid 90's we had an NZ officer on an exchange... He got to meet Paul Radisich at Donnington and it made his year. Radisich was a hero... Seems odd that Anstey gets so little recognition... Maybe he just doesn't like the publicity ?
then theres Simon Crafer i seem to remember he won a 500 gp,and what about Aaron Slight lots of wins in wsb and there was one year he should have really won the title but he had a bit of bad luck, wonder what hes up to now?
Great sailors from NZ. Can't believe how they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the San Francisco Americas Cup... :/ They were so unlucky. They only had to win one more race and even had a light wind race won by a mile, when it was declared invalid due to running out of time ...
Simon will show you tricks of going round sunny Spanish circuits. Motovudu – How to ride fast & safe at circuit I am sure he ends all sentences with "Eh" Similar to the Canadians.
When I read the headline of the op on the homepage my heart sank I thought something tragic had happened. Bruce is a hero and top bloke well done
Don't forget Kim Newcombe, died way too soon,.....Plus Hugh Anderson, world champ and TT rider,... Robert Holden, Ginger Molloy,...Rod Coleman,... Len Perry, probably more as well, then there's Speedway, Ivan Mauger, Ronnie Moore etc, Motorcross, the 3 King brothers, Josh Coppins, Ben Townley, and there is lots of race engineers, mechanics etc.
Plus the BSL 500 2 stroke, The CR&S VUN Blog: The BSL 500 MotoGP Effort and of course I should mention McLaren.
