As above. I remember someone posting about swapping over convex plates. But damned if i can find that thread or post. All the plates in my clutch are new, both the friction and the plain ones. It had no convex. I have some spare convex from my OEM plates and some from my 916 and the set the STM came with, so I have spares. Any advise on where to slot in the convex? I think it was the 2nd plain plate down...my short term memory is shit. Cheers.
The plate arrangement should be something similar to this although the clutch is different. Deffo a specific order as I did mine wrong initially and rearranged sorted it
Grease your clutch plates.. I kid you not My slipper was grabby and graunchy as hell so I tried this and it works Grabby, shreiking, clutch and how I cured it - Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum
Just make sure you have got them the right way around too as if you build it up with a stainless ring on first it can fall off the back and get mashed up. Must be a drive plate first
So let me get this straight, wipe the friction plates (drive plates) with lithium grease (as long as it has no friction additive), toast them with a blowtorch and wipe clean and dry. Bizzare but If the Swedes say so, then fair enough. Yeah Phill, I put a friction 1st.
I used a heat gun rather than a blow torch. As it goes I removed the bulk of the grase before heating the friction plates. But I did leave the plates lathered in grease for a few hours. Sounds bizzare but tust me Im a Doctor (ahem)
I remember the post and I think the original poster had a 748 but he suggested using three convex plates spread into the pack, this enable the pack to split better when the clutch is pulled in. I think all slipper clutches do tend to grab, even a bit, sadly a lot are diabolic, my DP slipper clutch can be a nightmare when it gets a bit of dust on it, I am going to try the convex plate route first. Stack height is pretty important.
My 916 is very slightly grabby but its minor. The 1198 wants to launch me into the stratosphere. Because i'm a bit rich at tick over, getting the smooth balance of throttle and clutch slip to pull away has become tricky. Tbh I need to get it dyno'd but I am skint at this minute. Spring is bill time for me.
I would agree with this for all other clutches but NOT THE STM. Very strange as I have found none of my STM kit has had the problems of other like DP/EVR etc ie grabby or squeal.I tried the 48T kit and it was brilliant for pulling away.In fact the best ive tried.I swapped back to the 12T STM kit though as I couldn't stand the damn higher pitched racket the 48T kit makes with wear.
Good lad. Mine will be baked too. How long did you cook em for? Times please for electric, and for fan assisted? :Cigar:
Right. She has gone out. I greased my plates last night in that lithium stuff. So now for 30mins at 150degC, fan assisted.
