STONER!!!!! What a rider - warning possible Phillip island spoiler thread

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by damodici, Oct 26, 2012.

  1. Controversial statement for many I'm sure, but this thread/post isn't about anything other than his simply phenomenal skills on a bike and even more so around Phillip Island. It's not a Rossi vs stoner thread but I'm sure it'll break into that later........

    however:

ive been up early this morning, I woke up and realised I could catch some of the practice session live on TV and I've not been disappointed with my 'attempted' quiet sneak downstairs (woke the mrs up after stubbing my toe)

Casey Stoner is an absolute genius and has balls bigger than buster gonad on a swollen day!

my god that boy can ride a bike, he's just mind blowingly good. Classic Casey this morning, short sharp runs straight down in to the 1.30's and didn't leave them until he broke in to 1.29's

only dani barely broke in to 1.30's just the once in the last 5 mins and Stoner is still having serious ankle problems, I think the home pride is kicking in.

For the Stoner fans you need to watch the replay if you can and check out some footage at roughly 10.30s left of the session.
He's banked in, both wheels clipping the kerb and the front is lifting, skipping, pushing and sliding all over the place on full chat right across the kerbs, it pushes slightly wide as it comes off the kerb, the back spins round and he just snicks another gear and off he continues, all in super slow mo........ Honestly it's awesome.

god I'm gonna miss him, it's actually quite sad :(

ive already made the statement to the mrs when she woke up at 6.30 that if he ever decides to return to racing I'm going to fly over for his return race....... What a rider.

  2. A fit Stoner at Phillip Island is unbeatable, simple as that :upyeah: Im glad I saw him race at least once, yes the championship is worse without him, but Marquez is a suitable replacement as they are very similar riders.

  3. He's going to whine like a banshee when HRC tell him to slow down and let Pedrosa past on the last lap though.

  4. Stoner is gonna lay it all on the line to go out on high. Danny and Lorenzo know they both have to finish the race to still be in the shout for the title so they will do exactly what they need to in order to stay in the hunt.
There would be no incentive for Lorenzo to need to beat stoner if he is remotely close to Danny in the race. He can ride round off the podium and still be champ.

On previous years form you would have to say Stoner would have the edge anyway and it takes balls to ride that hard injured but if he beats Pedro and Lorenzo ends up champ by 1 point imagine the fuss. Bit like when Haga lost the Wsb title to spies by almost nothing after Tardozzi refused to order fabrizio to let Haga through at Imola. That cost Tardozzi his job.

I do hope Pedro and Lorenzo go for it just to make a race of it.

  5. HRC don't do team orders and Stoner would make DP earn his title.

anyway, what they going to do? Sack him?

  6. To be fair, I think looking at his times he'll be able to get a good 30 second lead anyway so he'll be able to dismount, take the accolades from the crowd as his final farewell and still remount and finish 3rd with ease.

in fact just pull up and do burn outs and come in last, I don't mind :)

  7. that said................research troy bayliss pole lap for phillip island 2006 yes 2006......on a 999! His time would of put him second on fridays free practice!

    Now that IS amazing!

  8. If anyone is into MX, there was a rider called Hakan Carlqvist who was winning his last race at Namur by enough to stop for a beer at the bar on the track edge. They pre planned it that his brother had one ready.

For Philip Island i would settle for an entertaining race regardless of the winner. anyone know the forecast ?

    Yup
    Stoner
    Pedrosa
    Lozenge.

  10. I hope he wins, but not convinced he will. Being injured, he may get tired.

  11. German commentary but for those that didn't see it...

  12. No a man with more/less button at the garage will sort that ;)

  13. well it'll have to be less then Lucka coz if it's more he'll feck off into the distance.

  14. For sake of good race a less is in order ;)

  15. Or maybe the others should try a bit harder.

Rossi 2 seconds behind is a piss poor performance.

maybe he was up all night helping Berlisconi with his tax appeal?

  16. Guess he has experience there as well. Funny how few Italians I meet are happy Berlusconi was convicted, when I mentioned Rossi all knew him and all decided to ignore fact he did he same.

  17. Love him or hate him...myself he is a god talented rider that makes it look easier. I wish him all the best for the future with his family...he will be missed.

  18. Bit of a damp squib in the end, wasn't it?

  19. Yep. All over in two laps, I was gutted :frown:

  20. I was at Phillip Island this weekend, Stoner was freaking awesome! Visibly faster than anyone out there - people I spoke to there were in awe of him and not only Stoner fans. I sat next to a Rossi fan on between turns two and three for the race and the look on his face when Stoner came out of turn 2 sliding the rear, moving around and the front wheel popping up was priceless.

I'm glad I got to see him live in the end - mucho impressive.
