I have had the unfortunate luck of getting a puncture after riding in the cross hatch areas avoiding roadworks on the A24 today. I was lucky enough to be able to get home with a flat tyre. It was a nail/screw right in the centre tread, as I will not repair tyres and take it only to replace them I have taken it of the wheel ready for a new one. On inspection I can clearly see that the nail has produced a nasty defect which results in a crack across the tyre near the damage. No other damage is visible in the tyre and I am glad I took it off. It is not a casting mark either
I had a rear Dunlop 208 that did that strange crack thing. Replaced under warranty, and then again because the replacement had done the exact same thing. I put it down to the age of the tyres, as both of them were from roughly the same batch and a couple years old when they came to me (unused). How old is the M7RR you had on the bike?
Hi PeterT It is more likely that the crack was caused by heat due to the lack of pressure whilst running home, we see it quite often in the trade where it was necessary to limp home with a deflating tyre, -one reason why manufacturer will not allow a repair in motorcycle ,z,w rated tyres, except Michelin of course, well done for buying the bullet and changing it, as times gets tight we are seeing more and more people trying to find an unscrupulous repairer with no Morales for your safety
