I went for a ride after mot,i wound the air screws in half a turn each wich made it a lot smoother round town,i rode it for 40 miles and noticed a screw in the back tyre,on the way home i got a strange vibration through the footpegs under load,at first i thought it was clutch slip because if i rolled the throttle off a touch it dissapeared (never had vibration with a slipping clutch tho) its more noticable in higher gears,i stripped the clutch off that looked,so i convinced myself it must be the primary gears, there all ok,the oil is clean, nothing on the sump plug or filter screen,it looks like a engine strip again,
Mine vibrates through the foot pegs in the samd way you have described. Its that bad it would make a young lady very very happy!!
No its wasnt doing it for the first 40 miles it only started the last 10 miles, which made me suspect clutch slip as it only happens under load.
It won't be clutch slip..........clutch slip is easily recognisable as the revs rise dramatically when the engine is under load..... Stick it in 3rd gear at 30mph and whack the throttle open to test it............The revs will rise quickly (slip) or the engine will labour a bit but gradually pick up speed (normal)........ It sounds more like the carbs are out of balance a bit......... ......or, your chain is too slack and/or worn......sprockets check as well. I'll go for chain.
Chain and sprockets are as new, carbs are spot on,it i deffo engine related, the gearbox was really nice and smooth aswell,it started like turning a light switch on instant, usually starting 3-4k ...out rigger bearing is ok aswell,if i increase the revs steady it wouldnt happen, maybe something i missed in the gearbox?
oddly enough i get slight vibration at low revs under acceleration but stops when throttle rolled of also goes at higher revs and speed was thinking to check rear wheel bearings amongst other things
My engine has got 50,000 on it, the whole bike shakes at low revs, its a TRUE sod round town, have to sit in second in the 30's just to stop it vibrating itself to bits!! Is it worth giving a few more miles as it has been rebuilt, it might settle in. Its good to know you've got it going at last, bit quicker than i did mind.
nothing much to see but i will double check every thing before it goes back together, just waiting for the gaskets,in the mean time i have just had to strip the engine on my xt500 flattracker, the kick start pinion broke and threw shrapnel into the bottom end, racing friday night...just need my van to break down now.
I still rekon it's the chain adjustment...........mine does it at certain revs if the chain isn't to the stock adjustment (chain and sprockets very low mileage).
The chain and sprockets are good the chain was adjusted and oiled,it managed 40 miles or so before it started,i will also change the bearing in the sprocket carrier while its in bits,i will change the primary gear bearings while im at it,are 900ss clutch springs the same as the dry 750?
yes all that was done before the vibration started.......got it rebuilt over the weekend and test rode it tonight, problem solved, shes running smooth and the motor is a lot quieter now,i put new bearings in the primary gear, and output shaft also the rear sprocket carrier bearing.and put a extra plain clutch plate in,the basket was all dressed up last time,i also fitted a better condition swingarm off a 900 while it was it bits.
