Hi all I am new to this forum.. I hope you guys can help with this.. so here it goes After getting back from a ride with my mate, after we parked the bikes we noticed that his 1098 is making a strange noise. We quickly realised that the noise is coming from the tank filler cap. Tried taking a video.. .. I hope it helps Ducati 1098 strange tank noise - YouTube We thought it might be coming from the venting tube inside of the filler cap.. and tried getting the camera in there as well to have a look.. it does seem like there might be something stuck in there.. (sorry about the vid quality.. but after 10 failed attempts.. 1 of the vids managed to get the focus/light right.. .. ) Venting tube Ducati 1098 - YouTube Could that be the cause of this? and if it is.. can it be causing any problems in the long run? sounds like its just venting, ive had very similar myself..have you tried unlocking it and seeing if it releases any pressure? Does it only do it once the engine is hot?
we have only noticed it when hot and when we opened the cap it did release some pressure. After closing the cap the sound started again within 1 minute or so.
as said, it's just the tank air breather sounding off. Some do/some don't- there's a lot of heatsoak in the engine after a run and it's sitting directly under the tank.
Firstly, Cheers Calin for being less lazy than me and posting this Secondly in response to the replys, the only thing that worried me slightly was if you lok in the second vid there seems to be something blocking the pipe? we couldnt really see in there properly but hoping someone can say yes thats deffo blocked after looking or no its fine. Also dont know if you can see it on the first vid but petrols getting forced up through the key hole when it does this? surely thats not right?
sounds EXACTLY like my duke after a run, particularly on a hot day..i open the cap and even get a whooshing sound as it opens....a few minutes later she's up to her old tricks again..nothing to worry about though.
That's what they do , if you get a quick release filler cap it goes away ! but I know what you mean it sounds like the gas tank is singing!!!.
Well i guess ill chill abit then! was worried as the tanks are plastic and didn't want the pressure to cause a crack or something!
