So I've got a Nemesis II in the bike and really like the map, seem to get the OBD light now and again just when starting, it junks the 1098 soft (or servo start) system which suits me fine I hated that. Out on a run today, left a cafe and got the OBD light up, first time for a long time, bike started normally. Switched off and restarted and all good, no light Went up the road a few miles and pulled in for petrol. About to pull away thumb the starter and the starter engaged but didn't seem to turn, OBD light came on Tried a second time, started normally and quickly, crapped myslef at the thought of being 100 miles from away with a bike that wouldn't start, so just came home Checked back home fired up like a good un What's the opinion peeps, sprag, unlucky? Does the problem get gradually worse or does it just fail, I'm thinking if it's gradual I'd just keep an eye out and monitor it. If they usually just fail then I'd go in for a look How easy is it to get it off for a look? Are they expensive? I need to read up on the Nemisis as I don't know if the fault codes are stored in it and acessed via the Nemisis comms or the dash in which case I guess it would be Ducati Diag I'd use Welcome even insults at this point Apart from that the bike runs great, but might need a TPS reset, the idle semed to jump up to around 2k, whereas normally it's about 1500 John
My bike had done just under 30k when it finally went. That is to say it turned over but just wouldn't start. It had been going over a period There wasn't any Mil lights I connected up my diagnostics and the codes said that the coils, injectors and CPS no signal. I changed the relay first then the coils and CPS. No difference I put it down to the sprag. The starting circuit was drawing so much current the ECU wasn't getting enough current/volts While I had it open I fitted a new starter as well as the sprag, starts like a good un now If you fit a sprag, while its open you should fit new brush kit to your starter. On the 1098 you have to take the starter off to fit the brushes so you might as well do it all at once save opening it up again Electrex sell Brush kits about £30
It happens gradually. I used to get the EODB light after it failed to start. Replacement is fairly involved/easy depending on your spanner skills. Get a crank holding tool as the nut requires round 240Nm torque ( I will check that, hazy memory). Cost of parts alone is around 400 quid as to do it properly you need the clutch, flange, starter gear and new nut. “They all do that, sir” Correction - nut torque is 330Nm!
Thanks for the replies I'll keep an eye on it for now and see if it was just unlucky or it starts to repeat Ouch 330 Nm Gawd!!! I'm no ace mechanic @RickyX but can spanner a bit Going to take off the fairings tomorrow do a TPS reset, tighten the throttle cables (bit slack) see what the error codes were, then take it from there.
