I sold my Monster 1100 Evo and bought a 916, I soon realised that I needed something else and just use the 916 on sunny days. So pick up a new Street Triple on the 1st March in Matt Graphite. Tested the demo and it really is as good as they say. It's better than the old one and much more fun than It's bigger brother the speed triple. The Speed had some good power but it was noticeably heavier and sluggish in comparison. The Monster was probably the best all round bike I've had (better than the 848 Evo on the twisties) but I think that could all soon change. I'll put a few pictures up when I get it on Saturday, anybody else got one?
Nice choice, they and seem like very good value. I considered one, but preferred to stick with Ducati.
Although I like the new street triple, I do agree that the styling is not quite there. I haven't bought because I think it's the best looking bike, it's just such a laugh to ride. I'll probably move it on in a few years and try something else tbh. I don't research bikes too much anymore or try choose the bike as if I have to own it forever. The monster 1100 was a great bike but I sold to try something else.
I've had 2, absolutely bloody brilliant bikes! Make sure you get the Arrow can because the sound is epic. When i swapped to the Speed R i thought i had made a huge mistake, with some setup tweaks it has made it every bit as fun as the Street in the twisties but with more grunt. Having said that i do miss the 675 lump sometimes, enough low down shove to make it lazy to ride but if you decide to chase the revs it takes off like a stabbed rat and howls like a banshee. Honestly believe the hype, Street Triples are every bit as good as the magazines make out
I bought a STR new in 2012. After the test ride on the standard ST I thought the R would be just right, decent suspension, brakes etc. I'm probably the only person to say this but I grew to hate it. I never got it to handle properly, For a supposed 'R' model the suspension was garbage. The adjusters worked for about 3 clicks at either end of the scale so it was either rock hard or too soft. I could only get rid of the understeer by dropping the yokes 10mm. The engine was decent but soon ran out of puff at the top end, nice noise though. Even though it had the gel seat it was numb arse time after an hour. The indicator stalks were made of spaghetti and broke several times for no apparent reason. Brakes were adequate but not great. I nearly sliced my thumb off cleaning under the exhaust heat shields they were so sharp, finish in general wasn't as good as the jap bikes I'd had, (including Suzukis). If it had the suspension and engine from the Daytona it might have been better. The most common thread on the STR forum was suspension and how to make it work, changing it seemed to be the way, not something I wanted on a new bike. Maybe I'm out of kilter with general opinion but I think there was also a bit of rose tinted specs worn by testers at the time because it was British and any kind of criticism leads to manufacturers not wanting to lend you their bikes nowadays. I can't speak for the new model, I hope they have addressed some of the problems and you enjoy the bike, but to be honest my experience put me off them for life. OGR
I think there is merit in some of that, I had MASSIVE issues with my Daytona suspension, specifically the rear, my mates daytona was fine, mine was horrid but tbh I think the STR is set up quite well for the road. However I think there is quite a lot of variation. I am thinking of getting a standard street triple for commuting; the engine is fantastic and they are comfortable. They are much better than the competition
